Post Success Stories in Turning People On To the pillows
I have a lot of these, but one recent one sticks out to me.

For some reason one of my Japanese teachers and I started talking about music, and she was probably the first or second Japanese I've talked to that actually had heard of the pillows before I met them. However, she only knew their most recent music and was mostly unimpressed. (Can't blame her.) So I burned her Kool Spice and Living Field and she LOVED THEM! I felt pretty proud, especially since she's a former music major.

How about you?

Advice: get with that teacher! Or if she's old, never mind. But, if you like milfs on the other hand...

I've had plenty of success stories in turning people on to the pillows. Just, too many to share just one. :dizzy:

She is 31 and I respect her too much to try and hit on her.

I've had plenty of them. But the most prominent in my mind would be my dad. He's played music for the past 30 some odd years and listened to it for even more. I was real happy when I got him into them, and he even offered to take me to both of the US shows we've been to. His faves are I Think I Can and Little Busters. He was amazed when I showed him Living Field, since the first songs he heard were all their new rock stuff, he had no idea it was the same guys playing this non-distorted jazz-fusion easy listening tunage.

My Mom still isn't real real into them, but she enjoyed the stage show when she went last time. She adored how Sawao was so active on stage.

Yeah. My Dad took me to the Knitting Factory in '06 and both parents came to the city with me last March. My Mom mainly came for the city, not the concert, but she ended up enjoying it. :shred:

My dad likes the pillows and came to the NYC show with me. :) I guess that's a pretty good success story. Only, my mom hates them.

lmao.

I think a lot of the times when this topic was brought up, it happened in derailments of other threads. ...There may not have actually been a pirouzu recruitment thlead.

In my opinion, duplicate threads are far better than one thread that's a million pages long...

Anyway, I find it hard to turn people onto the pillows to a similar degree that I am already turned onto them. Most people I show them to acknowledge that they are a good band, but it's not like getting a pillows album will be put on their to-do list. It's also difficult, considering the whole language barrier.

I got two of my (Japanese) coworkers at the internship I'm doing to check them out and they both liked them. One of them went looking at Book Off to try to find Please Mr. Lostman. :shred:

call me crazy, but i feel like the language barrier is part of a sort of...music sterotype that a lot of people seem to have. I don't know if the people i know represent the majority, but i get the feeling that its sort of...viewed as strange to listen to music in another language that you don't understand and I think that is partly why its hard to convert people who hold the "you're english listen to english music" idealism. Of course that is not true for everyone, but i get the feeling its true for most people.

I've always defended my view that not knowing the language can actually help one's enjoying of music. I have trouble listening to other artist's songs because their lyrics are cheesy or annoying, but the pillows, I have no idea what they're saying half the time so it's all good.

I thought maybe when I started learning Japanese this would change, but Japanese is a pretty eloquent language. They can make the equivalent of "It's that I'd like to have done Yamamoto's conference, but it's that I was contracting an illness" fairly beautiful.

Also, don't shy away from failure stories. I have some of those too.

Disco hit the nail pretty much on the head. At least for me anyways.

Most of the people I've shown the pillows to complain about the language barrier. I started out pretty much listening to video game music so I grew accustomed to like instrumental pieces...and really cheesy 80's themes. Lyrics weren't and still aren't important to me in many* respects. As long as it sounds good, I'll listen to it.

*Notable exception: People Are Strange by the Doors, GOD, those are fucking awesome lyrics.
