Post Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
In the wake of the discussion that kind of stated going on in the Late Bloomer thread, I figured I'd start this one. I've been thinking about this for the past couple months actually, which of the two latest albums are better? Pied Piper has had almost a year to sit by now so we're well past that inital high of a new album.

Initially, I did like Pied Piper better. It started off real strong I thought with the title track, and then went into New Animal which was already known to be awesome, and then came No Surrender which really kicked some ass. But as I kept listening to the album, I realized the second half realy seems to drag. I think putting Ladybird Girl on the album was a mistake, it's the weakest song on the album. Tokyo Bambi was always kinda "meh" for me too, and Purple Apple took a very long time to grow on me.

That's when I figured out that, hey, maybe WUx3 is the better album. Over the past several months, WUx3 songs have kept popping up in shuffle mode on my iPod. I began to really appreciate the songs more for what they were. Propose is a great upbeat song, and the transition into Scarecrow is surprisingly not that bad, it really does fit nice. Then you got a double whammy of Boat House and The Pleasure Song. Friggin amazing. Serious Plan kinda fucks up what's going on, carrys on a bit too long. But then the next three songs just really build you up and when Century Creepers ends you're just thinking "DAMN! That was stellar!" I really do love the emotion Sawao put into that song's vocals.

I'll admit, Sweet Baggy Days is a weak finisher, goes on too long and is repetitve. Poison Rock'n'Roll was a better closer. Despite that, the WUx3 album as a whole just flows better I think. And in the end, I now have to say that WUx3 is the better album of the two. Thoughts? Opinions?

I'm going to have to go with Pied Piper.

While Scarecrow, Boat House, Pleasure Song, and Skinny Blues are absolutely fantastic, Pied Piper has Pied Piper, New Animal, No Surrender, Last Holiday, Tokyo Bambi, Ladybird Girl, and That's a wonderful world.

They're both really good, but right now I'm feeling Pied Piper more.

I hated WUx3 as an album, but it has its moments [The Pleasure Song, Scarecrow, Propose]

But Pied Piper is mind blowing, one of my top 5 albums for sure.

I'm going with Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!

I like Pied Piper, but Wake Up! has songs that I just agree with. I used to dislike Wake Up, but then I started looking at the lyrics and stuff, and now I love it. Boat House, Pleasure Song, Scarecrow, Skinny Blues, Century Creepers... all great songs. I especially appreciate the lyrics we have in the Pleasure Song.

Last time when I was in Japan (I actually got to see the pillows in Osaka for the Pied Piper tour), I found myself listening to songs like Century Creepers and the Pleasure Song a lot. They really grew on me... so Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! has indeed become a pillows album that is pretty darn important to me.

PIED PIPER has a lot of excellent songs, but I'd have to say WWW works better.

Pied Piper for me. Wake Up!x3 was good and has some solid tracks, but Pied Piper even more so. I mean, while the only song I love love love on Wake Up!x3 is Century Creepers, the songs I love love love on Pied Piper include No Surrender, Last Holiday, It's a Wonderful World, Pied Piper, etc.

WUx3 for me, easy. It has Private Kingdom, and that's more than enough reason for me, but beyond that there are quite a few good songs on there...
Pied Piper, while there ARE some nice songs, something has just always felt off to me. MAYBE it's still just the fact that we heard so much of it before hand, or maybe it's just the fact that the album is so darn short (Tokyo Bambi being the ONLY song on the album that breaks 4 minutes), I dunno, but I just can't REALLY get into it, as much as I like some of the songs a good bit, such as No Surrender.

Thats one of my favorite songs off the album.
I do agree that Sweet Baggy Days is weak though.
For now I'll say WUX3, but that could change. I love Pied Piper too.

Yeah, I forgot Private Kingdom. That song kicks the ass out of a lot of the stuff on My Foot and Pied Piper.

Pied Piper. It's been an awful long time since every song from a pillows CD has found its way onto my iPod. The only songs I didn't add were Ladybird Girl, Tokyo Bambi, and Across the Metropolis, and those I already had as singles. WUx3 has bright spots in PROPOSE, Scarecrow, Youngster, and Boat House, but it's not as solid to me as Pied Piper was. Pied Piper has always really impressed me since I first heard it.

Pied Piper, definitely. Although I still say they were a bit lazy by putting "Across the Metropolis" on there instead of a new song, I still loved all the tracks on there.

no contest here.
Pied Piper wins by a landslide for me.

Wake up! x3 is probably my least favorite Pillows album ever, there were hardly any songs that I found interesting at all other then Propose, Boat House, and Wake Up DoDo

The only songs on Wake Up that really stand out for me are PROPOSE, Scarecrow, and Century Creepers. Pied Piper was a much better experience for me. New Animal is just amazing.
