Post subject:  Rivalries?

So, I was just surfing Youtube, and I noticed n04h's video of the pillows performing Carnival live. However, before the song, Sawao talks about how he can probably write better music than B'z, who does the theme song to one of the dramas he watches.

So I was wondering, has Sawao been open about rivalries often? I don't speak Japanese, so I'm not quite sure what he's talking about during concerts.

I hope n04h doesn't mind that I posted this.

he's not talking about rivalries, he was pissed off because he believes his songs are better than mainstream bands but doesn't get as much attention.

That doesn't mean there's a rivalry. I mean, who here hasn't said, "Fuck Fall Out Boy. I could write better songs than that shit." I mean, I'm sure those of us who cannot even write music have thought that...

Ahahaha, yeah I saw the comments in yours. It's weird, B'z is very mediocre imo, and they got to play with Aerosmith and they got into Ouendan. Good bands like the pillows and Guitar Vader didn't get into anything, although Guitar Vader was in Jet Set Radio.

Yeah, and the pillows got into FLCL, Mongolian Chop Squad, Ben 10 and Moonlight Mile. But, I agree, B'z is thoroughly overrated.

If the pilows were to become mainstream. We would probably grow to hate them? I mean they would become mediocre. And we would hear alot of people talk about them. Which is good. But it could also be bad.

Of course over here in los angeles doubt anyone would be INTO a foregin band. That speaks little english.

Becoming mainstream doesn't have to take away a band's luster. I think one of the reasons the pillows have always been a bit of obscurity in Japan is because they've always been in the shadow of other bands (not in terms of musical composition but in terms of people's priorities to take a listen).

Anyways, it cool though, because the pillows are the most popular Japanese rock band in America!

Dude, isn't L'arc... more popular? Or even AKFG due to Naruto?

Actually I have no idea, but the the pillows come here the most out of all of them.

It's a topic I have little knowledge of... so I probably shouldn't have made that statement.

B'z is the best-selling band in Japan. Sadly they aren't that good. Even my friends in JSA don't know why they are big.

This is a list of the top 50 acts: http://wiki.theppn.org/All_Time_Top_50_ ... 28Japan%29

L'arc is #14, but AKG isn't even on it. Why Mariah Carey's on there, I have no fucking clue!

I have no idea where the pillows chart in this. I have a feeling that they might be in the top 200, but probably near the bottom.

IMO the top act should be SPITZ.
