The Pillows, Noodles, The Stereo Future LIVE [Seattle 2008]
EDITED 2.28.08
http://thestereofuture.com/live.html 03/19/08 @ Club Motor, Seattle WA All Ages w/ the pillows, Noodles ROCK ON.

Alright, you guys. I got a pretty sad email from Seth Thomas of The Stereo Future this morning. I had emailed them yesterday asking about their Feb 29th show at the Showbox, as it says "farewell tour" on it. Sure enough, it meant what I thought it meant. Seth is moving back to the east coast, so TSF won't be able to play more together. So on one hand, there's devastation. These guys were seriously one of my favorite bands ever, even though they just hand a handful of tracks. And even you, if you have no idea who they are, owe a lot to them - they were the main force that brought The Pillows to the US. I really do wonder why they never really "caught on", but that's how it goes sometimes. But here's the twist. Seth says I'm the first to know that...That the Feb 29th show isn't their last! The details aren't set in stone yet, but it's looking like March 18th at The Showbox. With guests? Hell yeah. The Pillows and Noodles. TSF is probably drilling for an all ages show, so I'm guessing that'll be the case. Anyway. Absolute devastation, combined with absolute joy. That's what's going on here. Let's rock. fake edit: Even if you don't quite live near the Pacific Northwest, I think it'd be really cool if we could get some out-of-town IM guys up here. Come on, make the drive and participate in one of the most meaningful shows of my entire fucking existence.
Wow, that's something. Fantastic timing that it's on the weekend, so if I were to consider flying, I'd only miss one day of school...
There will likely be shows on the East Coast, and money is definitely an issue right now. But I'll think about it. I could feasibly have the airfare paid for while still giving some money for bills. I've always wanted to travel by plane, and I'd like to see Seattle. I don't know if I could afford lodging though, lol, possibly the best I could do is crash at your house. I don't know if that'd be appropriate, though.
I'll keep it all in mind this month. I need to see the full tour dates and stipulations before I even consider it, though.
It would be maximum amazing to see one show on each coast, though. Manabe'd be like, Hey, I know you! New York!
Then I'd see him on the East Coast mere days later and he'd
Like, 2% chance at this point. I will certainly go to an East Coast concert at least, circumstances permitting.

That really sucks about TSF. I've been listening to their handful of songs pretty constantly for the last couple years since I heard of them after the first pillows tour here. I was really looking forward to a full album someday
Awesome to hear they're doing one more show with the pillows, though. I wonder if there's any way I can get out to Seattle for it without screwing myself out of money for rent

Yes, that's during spring break. I might get to go to this.

I have no idea what this band is. What do they have to do with the pillows?

They're a band from Seattle that is on Delicious Label. I haven't heard many of their songs, but they seemed decent from what I've heard. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think Manabe produces some of their albums?

Sort of. The guys in TSF played a large role in getting the pillows started in the US. Helped them with booking, things like that, if I'm not mistaken. In the Seattle segment of first US tour DVD there's a little clip of them: "Hey, I'm Nick from The Stereo Future, we're really honored to be playing with the pillows" or something like that. So yeah, Sawao put them on Delicious Label. Their second release "GRIT" was sold in Japan and at shows while they were touring there...and like...once or twice at shows stateside. I got it. It's very good, and yes, a few of the tracks were produced by Manabe.
Listen here:
"Level 8" http://www.thestereofuture.com/music/level8_demo.mp3
Check "The Center" here: http://www.thestereofuture.com/video.html
"Wasteland" http://www.thestereofuture.com/hang/son ... d_demo.mp3
They're one of those bands where, when listening to them, I know they're really damn solid. Really hiqh-quality music here...BUT...I just have to wonder: Why the hell didn't they "catch on"? Why were there so few fans at the show I went to a few months ago? It seems like their playing largely fell on deaf ears or something.
Level 8 is absolutely beautiful. Wasteland and I Need You are great love songs. The Fame is very energetic and uses electronic elements, guitar, and bass veryyyy well.
I just don't get it. Anyway, check those songs out. If you want more, hit me up on AIM. I'll be glad to supply music from what is probably my favorite band in America. Is that right?...
::ponder.
Yeah.

How on earth did they end up helping out the pillows?

the pillows went through a company called Benton (I think, it says the company's name at the end of Delicious Bump in USA), that booked their shows for them here. Maybe they were fans before or maybe they were just being nice, but stereo future had nothing to do with the pillows coming here.

I must say I really like the three songs that were posted up,its too bad I didn't learn about this band until now. I would love to go to the seattle gig but I'll still be in class. Its a shame that a band of this quality didnt get popular in America.

Oh I forgot: Were you the one talking to Nick from The Stereo Future two and a half years ago, or was I?
hint: it wasn't you.
edit: Do you mean "Benten Label" rather than "Benton"? Benten Label was the label noodles were on before Delicious. Also: I can't find any information online about "Benton Label"...or how "Benten" relates to the pillows. Where are you getting your info from?

Benten asked noodles to play in LA and San Francisco, and the pillows came along.

Ah, I was under the impression that it was largely the pillows who were at the forefront of the touring. Praise noodles? Well, that was a given, but...

It would help if you explained wtf you were talking about.

Again, it was two and a half years ago, during a sound check. IIRC, Nick mentioned something about being in this group called "East Meets West" or something like that. I don't have enough information to give you a thorough explanation, but they didn't just magically become bffs with the pillows for no reason.
Anyway, we can continue discussing how awesome this will be.
