Just who the hell are the pillows?!?
GoldenRhino's post in that other thread inspired me to make this thread.
It's pretty much common sense to use Happy Bivouac as the starting place for potential new pillows fans. Fool on the Planet works as well. However, sometimes, you just want to give them a taste of 16 years of awesomeness. Post your ideal pillows comps. to introduce new people to them. In your ideal track order and discuss. No more than 15 songs either.
1. Ride on shooting star
2. I think I can
3. Wonderful Sight
4. Carnival (funny how this song always ends up as the 4th track and it just never fails there)
5. The Third Eye
6. Sleepy Head
7. Babiron Tenshi no Shi (Babylon Verses Of Angel)
8. Thunder Whales Picnic
9. Terminal Heaven's Rock
10. Shiroi
11. Last Dinosaur
12. Beautiful Morning With You
13. Let's see, if that's true or not
I tried putting Something Like A Romance after The Third Eye, but it was completely out of place. It would be anywhere on here.

I would just give them the FLCL OST 3, but take out Nightmare and Come Down.

Alright, the rule is then that you have at least one song from every album OR a B-side from the single(s). This is mostly to escape having to use songs from Good Dreams and PL when the B-Sides were better anyway.

I forgot to mention that restorting to anything that has "FLCL" and "OST" in the same title is taking the easy way out. No heart and soul put into a pirouzu cd you make for someone. D:

Uhh, no? It's simply for introducing someone to the pillows...not some "variety pack" thing.
I dunno about you guys, but if I wanted to have the pillows make a good, lasting impression on my friends...I wouldn't pick anything from Moon Gold. That's not to say that I think Moon Gold is a worthless piece of crap. I just think that more of a rock/pop sound is gonna appeal to more people.
Imagine a college radio.
"And next up, we have THE PILLOWS with: 'Ami ni Utaeba'" you'd get a whole lot more "wtf?"s...although you might love the song personally.
"And next up, we have THE PILLOWS with: 'My Foot'" Sure, argue the technical merits of My Foot against something from Living Field or [insert "better album"] - but the fact that their newer music may not be technically their"best" work, it doesn't really matter. Maybe it's just me, but if I'm some random kid from my school (who enjoys at least a little rock), the dance-beat and bassline in My Foot have a high chance at getting me really really interested.
If they wanted to hear more, I'd show them more of the pillows' kick ass rock style, and then be like: "It's a pretty different style, but check Living Field out too. It's also very good. Albeit more jazzy."
Wow this wasn't supposed to be such a long post.

I have no idea whose thread you are talking about.
Here's fifteen, sorry for the lack of LF.
1. My Foot
2. Kanojo wa Kyou
3. Blues Drive Monster
4. toss up, Last Dinosaur or Carnival
5. Juliet
6. Good Dreams (Smile if you hate GD)
7. Beautiful Picture
8. Funny Bunny
9. Swanky Street
10. Hybrid Rainbow
11. The Third Eye
12. Thunder Whales Picnic
13. toss up THR or Waiting at the Busstop
14. Our Halley's Comet
15. Shiroi Natsu
Some songs are personal preference. It's physically impossible for me to pick fifteen career defining songs. A true greatest hits for the pillows would span at least two, full capacity discs.

1. The Thrid Eye
2. Another Morning
3. Kono Yono Hate Made
4. Sleepy Head
5. I Think I Can
6. Kim Deal
7. Moon is Mine
8. Wake Up, Frenzy
9. Beautiful Picture
10. Strange Chameleon
11. Nowhere
12. Walkin' on the Spiral
13. Babylon Verses of Angels
14. Boku Wa Kakera (Penalty Life Version; 'cause Joe Schmo won't like the 90's My Life version)
15. RUNNERS HIGH
Today I gave a copy of Please Mister Lostman to a classmate of mine. He's a big fan of Waiting for Godot; and gave him the link to this forum to see its similarities. Hopefully we both can figure out how to put these two masterpieces together.

I'm liking Thin's list. Beginning with Trip Dancer is a nice idea. That song really just...STARTS when it starts, doesn't it? Also, ending with the epicness of Beautiful Picture...expect'd and awesome. Nice jaerb.

I was considering putting in Trip Dancer, Kono yono hate made, Nowhere and Beautiful Picture in there somewhere. With the selection of the first 3 songs, I didn't think that any would fit. Same happened with Something Like A Romance.
It's not so bad that you might have not included LF in the mix. You have to listen to the pillows from a certain career point before you move on to the old/epic stuff.

Well then you shouldn't just introduce them to things you think are easier to get into. Introduce them to everything that way you can get an idea of what to show them next. Maybe they're the sort of person that prefers White Incarnation to Happy Bivouac.

True, but you shouldn't restrict yourself.

We should all make sure to put these compilations to good use and shove them in the ears of at least one associate, eh?
Right.
I’ll post a list myself later
Now make like a city which for years lay peacefully in the shadow of a menacing volcano until the great mount finally exploded it's molten innards skyward, raining ash and lava on the poor peasantry's dainty wee heads - and BURN!

1-Last dinosaur
2-Another morning
3-No self control
4-Blues drive monster
5-Swanky street
6-Crazy sunshine
7-Thank you my twilight
8-Walkin on the spiral
9-My foot
10-Kono yo no hate made
11-Fool on the planet
12-Okujou ni nobotte
13-Hybrid rainbow
14-Bokura no halley suisei (white incarnation version, turn back one is a little careless)
15-Wake up frenzy
I always thought Last Dinosaur would make a good first impression, I've actually started a show with it. Okujou ni nobotte is something that could've been in PML ,for example, without major changes, I don't think that it would let someone down.

Yeah, my second list is the joke/hardcore one. The first is what I'd really use. It took about half an hour to pick the songs and arrange them in the right order. I tried to use songs that a casual listener would like, but would be different from the usual Hybrid Rainbow, etc.
