Post Knitting Factory Concert
Just got back from it. I read flyp's thread, that lucky mofo. Anyways, The Pillows played the same songs in the same order they did at the previous show. The Noodles accompanied them and boy did they rock. The drummer sounded so cute trying to speak English. The guitarist too. The bassist looked kind of sad or something haha. The crowd was giving them tons of love. They only played for about 30 mins and they were great. When they were walking off stage everyone was screaming to play more. There were so many people that it felt like it was 300 degrees in the room we were in.

Next up was some metal band called Daddy. Their music is pretty good but the lyrics and the vocalist are pretty bad. It was funny because the crowd was shouting for them to stop playing and trash talking the vocalist. I dunno, she was bad but I wouldnt go screaming crap at her.

After that the Pillows were up. Soon as they popped out from behind the curtain to tune up their instruments EVERYONE was chanting and screaming. They did a couple of poses and finished tuning up their stuff. As I said before, they played the same list of songs as the other show. There was a funny part where Sawao made a speech about how he saw the Statue of Liberty (he then did the pose the statue makes). He then went on to talk about how they were so happy to be in America and that playing in New York was the dream. Haha, he also mentioned how everyone and everything is so BIG in America and everything in Japan is so small. During one of the instumental parts sawao jumps off one of the Amps and does a stage dive into the crowd (guitar in hand). I almost touched him!!!! By the 4th or 5th song everyone was getting into the music, even the people that were there for another band. Sawao goes, "I LOVE CRAZY DANCING!!! DO SOME CRAZY DANCING FOR ME!!" and the crowd went nuts. They performed their last song and went off stage, but everyone was cheering and screaming for them still so they came out and did another one. I'm not that good with remembering stuff lol, sorry about that. The concert was freaking crazy and there were lots of people outside looking for tickets. Some chick was saying she would pay and give her Nickelodeon umbrella for a ticket.

I felt bad for the last band that was playing. Almost everyone who was there was looking to see the Pillows and lots of people left after they finished their set. Some of the people I went with were complaining because they were short and couldnt see. I saw everything though. I so want to fly to Seattle and LA and see them two more times!!!

Edit: I'm sad they didnt play funny bunny though. It's my favorite song.

good times, bunny.

the reason people thought that Daddy sucks is because the vocalist, as stated in their official site, has been trained in the classical vocal style. meaning something along the lines of opera singing or choir singing. tis why my ears were going to murder me in my sleep when i played a song of theirs off their site.

damn i wish i can go to the LA show...

Didn't sound like she was trained in any kind of singing, lol. She also looked mad trashy and they sang some song about sex on the computer. But yea, their guitar and bassist are badass. They just need to work on the lyrics and the vocalist. Also, the vocalist kept doing some vibrato type crap, rolling her tongue, hu hu hu hu hu hu like she was thug or something. I think that annoyed everyone lol.

The set list from Pianos and the Knitting Factory were a bit different (thank God). Here's the lists if I remember them right:

Pianos:

I Think I Can
Ride on Shooting Star
Carnival
Dead Stock Paradise
Terminal Heavens Rock
Little Busters
Crazy Sunshine
Hybrid Rainbow
Advice

Encore: Blues Drive Monster

Knitting Factory:

I Think I Can
Ride on Shooting Star
Runners High
Crazy Sunshine
Sleepy Head
Little Busters
Swanky Street
One Life
Hybrid Rainbow
Last Dinosaur

Encore: Advice

I thinks those are all the songs, but they might not be in the right order. They also played "Kim Deal" at the Knitting Factory for about 5 seconds. Just a tease though and I'm pretty sure I saw Manabe give the crowd the finger, but maybe not.

I also felt bad for the last band, Male Room, because nearly everybody left. But then I heard some of their "music" and didn't think they deserved a big audience.

I'm taking your comment in italics as sarcasm since I know you're not a fan of how he changed the ending of the song. The song was still worth hearing in my opinion.

The whole song is different on the bass.

No longer is it even remotely catchy. It's just droning downpicking.

muh muh muh muh

It was a cool show.

I gave Ikuno (because she was just sitting alone in the middle of the bar so was the easiest one to approach) a letter I had my friend translate and a DVD copy of my student film that I used two Pillows songs in and asked her if she would give it to Sawao. I wanted to get them to make it all legal like if they would or at least tell me how much money I'd have to fork over. She was very, very nice about it and informed me that:

"Sawao like movie."

Which I think is a good sign.
