Post Get me up to date!
Okay so the last time I was really into the pillows, people were still saying "GOD I WISH THEY'D TOUR THE US", and they'd JUST released Penalty Life. That's where I left off. Now I see they've played here a few times and in fact they played right here in SF... damn. Hopefully they'll come around again.

In any case... fill me in on their releases since then! I know I can check the discography (and I have), but that doesn't give me actual feedback on the albums.

The big question:

What are the big releases since Penalty Life I should check out? Also, what are they like? Is it the more power-poppy stuff as the FLCL stuff, or is it the most 60's rockish stuff like Smile, or experimental, or something completely new?

The reviews are mixed really. It all defintiely sound smore poppy. IMO, if you were going to check out one of the albums after PL, I'd say listen to My Foot. I'd say it's much better as a whole than Good Dreams and Wake Up!x3 And then with the release of their new single Ladybird Girl, they just seem to be continuing with the poppy style. But as many have pointed out, the pillows never write the same style of music for too long, so I think they'll be trying other things soon.

After PL they released a few more things. You might know of some of them. You can actually see their discography on the main page of this site.

Most of the new songs are leaning towards the pop side more than anything, especially the latest single "ladybird girl"

If you missed TURN BACK that is a good one to consider. Self covers of a few songs including Tiny Boat and Want to Sleep For...

My Foot is probably the best album they've released since Penalty Life. There are some crappy songs on it, but a few are actually really good. Beyond singles I wouldn't bother with Good Dreams or Wake Up!x3. If you missed Turn Back, then yes, that's definitely worth a listen.

As far as singles go, Sono Mirai wa Ima, Nonfiction, and The Third Eye are all solid. Scarecrow is good, but I didn't really like the b-sides.

I should also point out that last year a forumite managed to obtain the 1993 fan club CD, which has three excellent songs on it.

Thank you much.

Haha... I've been familiar with the Pillows title "My Foot" for a while, but it just hit me how ridiculous it is.

"Hey guys what do you think of the title "My Foot"?"
"Woah... that's deep."

Ordered!
