of course you can get autographs without speaking a word of japanese, but if you wanna impress them: shitsurei [shee-tsu-ray] desu [dess] ga (excuse me! - super polite) or: sumimasen [soo-mee-ma-sen] (excuse me) kore [ko-ray] o SAIN [sa-een] shite [shee-tay] kuremasen [koo-ray-ma-sen] ka? (could you please sign this?) arigatou! (thanks) pirouzu wa saikou! (the pillows rock!) RAIBU wa saikou datta! (your show rocked!) watashi wa pirouzu no daifan da yo! (i'm a big fan!) AMERIKA ga tanoshii desu ka? (are you enjoying america?) hm, i mixed politeness levels... oh well. edit: added stuff. |

Alright, butchered Japanese will impress them. Not. Nice effort though, Terra. However, you still suck for not making me a mod again. |

things like "that was a great show" for afterwards, or "I'm a big fan" would help.. Because they are primarily playing with a few other bands so they don't necessarily know who their fans are in particular. I don't really know any japanese, but I managed to say a weak thank you in their language. |

well, they were obviously worried about not speaking english well, so i think it would make them happy if you could say something in their language. and most people are flattered when you try to speak to them in their native tongue, even if you suck. it's not their country, sure, but it might help them feel welcome. have to think about how you'd say 'i'm a big fan'... the first thing that comes to mind would probably convey 'i am a LARGE fan!' |
the first thing that comes to mind would probably convey 'i am a LARGE fan!'
Judging by the crowd photos, that would be an appropriate thing to say, actually. |

Terra speaks the truth. Japanese people are always very flattered when Americans and others try to speak their language even if we do muck it up. They know how hard English is to learn so the always appreciate the effort. |

Thanks terra. I was going to look up some phrases like that, just in case I happen to get the chance to chat with them. ![]() |

it's time like these i wish Japanese was taught at my school... |

my school doesn't have a japanese class. self-teaching is harder and slower than a class, but with a dictionary and some japanese media (read: the pillows and some anime in japanese) it can be done! |
