alright, between my crappy spanish and a online translation, i think you are saying that that is the video from the scarecrow single and that you like that live version of hybrid rainbow more than the others you've seen?
i actually hadn't seen this yet though, and don't know if it was in another post, but enjoyed it

Would've helped to watch it. The first half is a live video of Scarecrow, impeccably shot. I dunno if this is from the single or not. (Side note: Judy's gonna have a field day over Manabe completely BOMBING the solo on this, hell I'm disappointed) Then it's Hybrid Rainbow. Go bears.

Yeah Bears.
I thought the different solo on Scarecrow rocks hard.
I've had this up on YouTube for a couple months, I guess I forgot to post a link, lol.
Edit: No, wait, it actually does link to mine. I'm a moron.

I loved the solo to the studio version of Scarecrow since it saved what otherwise would not have been nearly as memorable a song. The one on the live video is just awful, Manabe seems to be banging random chords for the most of it, which comes across as a pale imitation of Tabuchi. He really needs to quit doing this crap on songs like Scarecrow and Swanky Street, because I know he can play them right. This, however, ends up ruining the whole thing.
On the other hand, the bonus DVD has a great performance of Hybrid Rainbow.

Have either of you even considered the possibility that the live of Scarecrow was recorded before the solo for the single was even finalized/recorded? Look at Manabe's guitar - it's the Squier Jagmaster he was using for the USA tour. As we all know, he's moved on to...I forgot the model, but something different.
The solo on this recording isn't some on-the-fly improv "Tabuchi-style" shit. You can obviously see that there were parts that correlated with the studio solo, as well as some other ideas (that weren't included) as well. Maybe it wasn't a polished sounding as you would have preferred, but even using the phrase "banging random chords" is just...wrong.
Maybe you're just used to hearing cleanly played and perfected solos without any scratches or "live" vibe.
Either way, it's easy to tell:
- This is an early stages/prototype/beta Scarecrow solo.
- The only thing he really seems to have "messed up" on is the first note/squeal at the very beginning of the solo
- There are no "random chords".
- Comparing this solo to the Hisako Tabuchi's style is way off the mark.
I'm more inclined to agree with you on Swanky Street's solo. It's not an overly difficult solo and it seems like he's trying to play it close to the album....but...The only time I've heard anyone whine about him "butchering it" is for the 916 performance. And even still, it wasn't that bad. Come on. Really.

I think Manabe has a Les Paul variant right now.

Rei Ayanami ITT.
I really feel like they need to slow Hybrid Rainbow down if they are going to keep playing it.

I agree completely, it needed to be said. It's meant to be played slower, upping the tempo just doesn't really fit that well. I mean it still sounds good, but you can just tell that the speed of the song needs to get back to where it was originally.

Kyle`s been infected with Keicock syndrome. He really should get that looked at, because he`s usually an amiable guy, but both of his most recent posts in this section of the forum reek of the keicock bullshit: whining about something that`s good because it isn`t GODLY.

It's odd how Thinliine compares everything Manabe does to Tabuchi.
Not only are they incredibly different, but Manabe owns Tabuchi.

Probably not, since nobody on that forum has even discussed the pillows since Wake Up! x 3 came out. I just think the live solo sucks. It may well be that Manabe didn't have it in its final form, so I'll cut him some slack if that's the case. You aren't particularly justified in criticizing my opinion, anyway, since I gave reasons why I didn't like the live Scarecrow performance and Wake Up! x 3. Hardly the typical "Well, it just sucks!" buffet rhetoric.
Of course Manabe's style is totally different from Tabuchi, but when he pulls the whole random-sounding up-and-down the neck solo thing live on songs like this and Swanky Street, it's the closest comparison I can think of. I still like Manabe more (particularly up to 2001 or so), by the way, although it's definitely debatable which one has a higher level of technical skill.
