Sawao's writing.
I wanted too hear all your opinions on how fine a song write Sawao is since he writes the lyrics for most/ almost all of their songs.
remember Im talking strictly lyrics here. Kinda hard too tell since we're going off translations, but when you look at the audio devices in the japanese versions and the translations you can get a good idea I think.

You need to lurk more, just about every thread has turned into a debate about Jun's bass playing or Sawao's song writing ability.
but yeah, I'd give him a 4 or 5. The lyrics are pretty clever and tend to contain sarcastic backhanded compliments or double meanings that make translating that much harder / fun. Plus he can write some mean melodies.
Be sure to check out his 4 solo songs, they are all in english and funny (Nobody Can Find Me) or sad (Clare Butterfly)

Hey simple plan rights awesome songs!!!
I kid, I kid....
Yeah, I'd deffinately give Sawao a 4 or 5. He gets really deep sometimes, and he can make me smirk at his cleverness sometimes.

I gave him a four cuz of One Life. That song really stands out the most when it comes to lyric writing.

He's very good at songwriting in general, but Please Mr. Lostman and Little Busters really stand out. The more recent stuff... not so much.

If you add the lyrical themes of Simple Plan with the skilled linguistic craftsmanship of somebody better than Bob Dylan, and add a dash of the senselessness-despite-loose-meaning-in-the-English-language of Beck, then you get Sawao's writing.
Bob Dylan is the most overrated lyricist ever.
But Sawao writes better music than all of the aforementioned artists. Especially Bob Dylan, who had the musical sense of a gnat.

I like how Sawao writes appropriate lyrics for the music - like some artists will write really sappy lyrics for a rock song. =/ or really emotional lyrics for poppy-happygolucky music. And there's either random, intentionally emotional or something like Instant Music, it's like there's a song for everybody. =D but mostly, he gets a 5 for the songs that you think back upon like Monster C.C or One Life or TYMT and the songs that just are just great to sing along to =] (lostman).
*I'm not so much including the newer stuff... still not used to what's going on with the recent works..

He's written sappy lyrics for rock songs since "Boku wa Kakera."

Depending on the material it hits all ends of the scale. I gave him a 3 as the average.

no vote; inadaquate selection. and bob dylan is a sucky sellout these days anyways.
(although old bob dylan is classic stuff for a reason))

The main thing that comes to mind is how Good Morning Good News sounds like such an upbeat happy song, and yet the very first verse has a line about digging into despair, IIRC.
Some of Sawao's lyrics are rather depressing, and set to peppy rock.

i sort of disagree with that. the lyrics to GMGN aren't downcast at all, it's about finding your way free of despair.
