Post How did you get into the Pillows?
Just curious about how everyone else got into the music of the Pillows. moi, there's this guy on my YM contacts who keep alluding to the the Pillows and their songs. Curious, I looked for some songs on the net and there was no turning back since then.

My friend lent me Little Busters a month or so after it was released.

my friend was always listening to them...and talked about them a lot. so i finally told him to let me hear. the first song i heard: blues drive monster. i demanded a burned cd of their music. i received said cd, and asked for a second one a month or so later. now i am a total addict. yay.

The first thing that I was able to get off limewire was Happy Bivouac. Yeah, their music is really addictive. @___@

Back long ago I used to watch TV late at night - I got addicted to talk shows like Conan and Leno - honestly, I still think those shows are amazing, I just don't have the time or effort to put them on at their respective times. Anyway, besides NBC and CBS, I would also alternate with Comedy Central and Cartoon Network, and one day I saw Cartoon network was running a show called FLCL. I was instantly attracted to the...utter senselessness of it...but that couldn't keep me interested. But then I heard the music...ah yes, I tuned in every time it was on just to listen to this amazing music. Once I discovered on the internet that all this music came from the same band, I instantly went on an online music pirating spree. I created quite a collection, but then one day after discovering uTorrent, I found a torrent of their entire discography. I fucking signed right onto that shit, and have consistently been impressed with all eras of the pillows music. They have become one of my favorite bands.

I'm not embarrassed to have found out about them through FLCL. I'm not embarrassed to have never actually purchased a single pillows CD. It's music that I love, and nothing else matters to me.

Bac kwhen I was obsessed with anime, I read a magazine called Anime Insider.

They ran an interview with the pillows. I instantly went out and bought Penalty Life from my local FYE as I thought they sounded really down to earth and nice.

I've been hooked ever since.

I watched the first episode of FLCL, finding the background music occasionally rocking and catchy and incredibly atypical as far as anime's concerned, but nothing really blew my mind until the credits started rolling, and "Ride on Shooting Star" started playing. I called up my friend, who was watching the same AS broadcast, immediately afterwards, and we shared the exact same thought: "What the holy hell was THAT? THAT WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE."

At first I thought "the pillows" was a funny codename some anime composer made up (like Yoko Kanno and Seatbelts). When I found out they were a real band I imported everything they had and never looked back at "mainstream America."

My cousin is a big into anime, but also has good taste in music. Back in 2002, he sent me "Ride on Shooting Star" over AIM and told me I needed to see FLCL. I downloaded the show and was blown away, so the next step was to get the FLCL soundtrack. I think the first non-flcl song I downloaded was Girlfriend. After that, I got Happy Bivouac and Runners High off of kazaa or whatever I was using back then. I learned everything about the band from Planet Pillows UK. After that site went south, I naturally came here (best fansite ever) and learned about Soulseek and got all of their stuff. (incl. videos)

Almost 4 years later, no band has surpassed them 8)

I found out about them *before* I watched FLCL- I heard the show had an amazing soundtrack, so I got into the band a little before seeing the show.

So Kaze, you're the oldest US fan? Did you import stuff as it was released, or what? It must have been tough, being the only one.

Hasn't CajunBushi been a fan since the late 90's?
