How good of a guitarist is Manabe? (comparatively)
So I was just wondering how skilled you guys think Manabe is as a guitar player, compared to a few of the famous names. I don't have experience with LOTS of other rock groups, so I don't really have an ear for how he would rank...Thoughts?

Because everybody knows that rock groups have alllll the best guitarists. Of course Hendrix is the best. I don't even understand how he does it.

Yngwie would have been the obvious choice for #1 but I'd have gone
with Satriani. :x
Manabe is a very good lead guitarist with alot of melodic ideas,
not only in his solos but his riffs and fills as well.
Of course, when it comes to straight out technical skill, he is fairly normal.

I agree with Sclone. However, we don't know what his skill level was during his Persia days. He could have come up with some crazy shit back then.

Since Persia was an 80's metal band, something tells me he
had a little Yngwie in him.

Yeah, about that. How do people define "technical skill"? If the guitar is a musical instrument, designed for people to create "melodic ideas", how much value does technical skill have, actually?

I gave him a seven. He has come up with some pretty wonderful lines in his day, and he's good at being catchy. Nothing amazing, but definetly stellar.

He may not be a crazy shredder or super technical player, but...
9 - for pure creativity (think HYBRID RAINBOW, Blues Drive Monster, and Paper Triangle, maybe Advice) and wicked live performances...
My all time favorite guitarist, and I listen to A LOT of music...

Yngwie shouldn't be number one. In fact, it should be andres segovia. If it weren't for him, the guitar would not have been a mainstream instrument. (or so i've read, correct me if i'm wrong.) But Hendrix, santana, and clapton? Come on. ROCK IS NOT THE ONLY STYLE OF MUSIC. Wait no. BLUES IS NOT THE ONLY STYLE OF MUSIC.
I got really pissed today because i was on itunes and was looking at this so called "guitar legends" playlist that had zz top on it. ZZ TOP.
"GUYS LETS WRITE ANOTHER 12 BAR BLUES SONG!!!!!!!"
I HATE ROCK.

It's so awesome when he's doing really well-known songs like Instant Music: He sometimes goes into this wide open stance, drops his arms low, and sort of swings/sways his guitar back and forth while he plays - makes him look like a goddamn beast ready to hunt you down and melt your face with uber catchy riifs.
