Ok, what was the first song you heard by the pillows, what were you doing, and when (if you can remember)?

for me, it was blues drive monster that kaneda shared with me while skipping church stuff in april (?) of last year.

It was probably Instant Music, since I had the TV on and FLCL was running but I wasn't paying attention. I was probably working on an airplane. I sure as hell wasn't watching the TV- just killing time until Futurama came on. This went on for several nights. It was just running in the background, but I remember thinking that the music was pretty catchy. (Hmmmm...J-rock. Whadda ya know....)

Then I heard Funny Bunny, and that got me interested. Then a few days later it was Instant Music again, and after that...Hybrid Rainbow.

That got my attention. BIG TIME. I started watching, and started an internet search. I HAD to find out who these guys were. I still hadn't made sense of FLCL....that came MUCH later.

All I knew was, I wanted to PLAY Hybrid Rainbow on my guitar.

If it hadn't been for the Pillows, I'd have never gotten into Anime music, and I'd have missed Yoko Kanno, Hajime Mizoguchi, etc....and I'd have probably never known about the Pixies and the Breeders, either.

I was about to give up guitar, actually. The Pillows completely reconnected me to music. I was bored as shit until I heard them.

After Kaneda let me listen to Blues Drive Monster, I saw FLCL episode three and heard instant music.

funny, the pillows had much the same effect on me, but i can't play guitar. however, i was rather bored with everything in general, but i got into japanese because of them.

I can't for the life of me remember where I heard it, but I heard "Happy Bivouac" sometime before seeing FLCL. Come 2002 or so when I saw FLCL, I went "Holy crap! I know that song!" when it came on in episode 4 (I think).

i really don't remember where i first heard them. Somehow though last year for so long i had Little Busters stuck in my head, but i had no idea what it was or how i got it stuck in my head. I was starting to think i made it up but i was still looking for what it was. Then one day, i picked up my brothers Ipod, and was looking and saw the pillows and thought that sounded funny so i listened. I was loving the songs he had ( he had the FLCL songs, he watched the show but i had no idea about it) Then Little Busters came on and i was like "Holy Shit!, this is the song" Then i looked them up and stuff. Now they are basically my favorite band.

"Crazy Sunshine", I'm guessing. It's pretty unforgetable, although that's another one that took a few times for me. Loved Manabe's solo immediately, though.

EDIT: Oh: maybe you meant "Happy Bivouac" the track instead of the CD...but wasn't that just over the teaser? I can't remember...I'll have to watch it again. (You'd think after 40 or 50 times I'd have it down cold...)

"Crazy Sunshine" was the first song i'd heard right before FLCL aired for the first time on adult swim.

After that it was "Skeleton Liar" and "Last Dinosaur" that got me hooked.

lol, I had no preference towards the pillows until i started downloading Japanese music from animes. I downloaded their stuff in FLCL (as I usually did with other shows). so i guess the song that got to me first was Ride on Shooting Star. Then it took me about a year to get into the pillows. A friend of mines started me off with around 50 songs (two of which were hide's "FLAME" and cali gari's "yabureta denpou" >:[ ) and now I have just about every song they recorded and all their promotional videos and lives. Wow. this is also when I hated Culen's guts.. yup GOOD TIMES. :)

My friend made a website about this kid at our school who liked FLCL. I had never seen it and knew nothing about it(FLCL). On my friends website he put samples of a couple of FLCL songs on there. I listened to Carnival one day in my journalism class and totally dug it so I listened to everything else everyday of the year on that website. Ahh, Good Times.
Ride On Shooting Star
Carnival
She Is Perfect
Beautiful Morning With You
Bran New Lovesong
Blues Drive Monster
and Come Down
( The Songs that were on there)

RUSH was the first song I heard because someone mislabeled it as the "opening" to FLCL. I had never seen FLCL, but I heard it was a good anime so I decided to download the song. This was about 2-3 years ago.

I've never actually listened to the pillows. I just pretend I have.
