A few of the classic rock acts are now performing entire albums on tour these days and I love that. Springsteen is one artist that comes to mind. But yes, this is indeed why the pillows are amazing. Wish that 1st movement show was a little longer though!

What sucks though is that if the sets are varied for the next couple shows, only one makes the DVD. bleh
I was thinking the same thing. Again, same thing happened during the Lostman Go To Yesterday Tour; I'm still disappointed I didn't get to see what Beautiful Picture looked like live. If only someone could get a bootleg, but that's only wishful thinking.

Also, I'm really digging those shirts, especially the first one with the band on the front. There's just so many reasons to be envious of all those fans in Japan lol

Yeah, I kinda hope that it stays somewhat consistent. I'm happy with what we have on the first set being in the DVD show. It'll be interesting to see if they rotate anymore Living Field material into the set.

That song is one of the few that would let Jun really cut through on bass.

Right, I was referring to them playing it live.

As his tense choice for "would" implies. Context clues! 8)

Love seeing Sawao rocking a tele again. 3ts, no less?

I would rather they released a DVD of old recordings from 1993-1996 and threw the new ones in a vault never to be seen again... than the other way around. But who's complaining.

Kashima is indeed a god among pillows bass. But I think Jun's bass playing is one of the best things about recent pillows, honestly. He'll do Kashima some justice, though it's highly doubtful he can groove as well as the original man himself. His grooviest playing was on The Chewing Gum Weekend's first album. He did some cool stuff there. But Kashima could put the moves on in a live performance for sure.

Post Re: 90s MY LIFE RETURNS AGAIN
Listening to other Japanese rock acts actually make you realize how little emphasis is placed on the bass and drums in the pillows' songs...it's like sato and jun don't even do anything.

the thing about the pillows is by themselves none of them are actually really that great at what they do (except for Manabe, who is legitimately a good guitarist).

Sawao is a bad singer, and isn't that great of a guitarist.
Sato can play drums, but really doesn't try.
Jun can play bass, but Sawao doesn't really give him anything interesting to play.

They're only really a great band when all of them come together. That's pretty evident judging by how their solo works aren't anything special.

lol because being great at songwriting (melodies, harmonies, progressions, etc) counts for nothing.

Because focusing on an accentuated 8-beat as your main style automatically means you suck at drumming.

Because the bass not being as present in the mix means it sucks.

Like, I acknowledge that the pillows aren't necessarily virtuosos or whatever, and I prefer their albums to any of the solo stuff, but...

"Sawao is a bad singer."

I don't even know what to say to this lol

Maybe the other members should fire him and hire Morrissey or something lol. "This Charming Lostman".

"Punctured bicycle on a hillside DESORATOU...will NATCHAA make a ROSTMAN of me yet?"

In all serious, I'd jizz to see a pillows cover of the Smiths.
