Great intro...good verse...okay prechorus/chorus...good solo...uh, weird bridge/outro. "My forward movement?" Is that what he's saying?
Overall? B.

Yeah, "My forward movement."
I'd agree with your analysis there, I didn't really dig that outro much either, it's kinda disconnected from the rest of the song.

I like the outro from an instrumental stand point. The lead line Manabe adopts at the end is completely new material, but Jun is playing the awesome introduction riff from the beginning underneath, so it's really more along the lines of the Swanky Street guitar wails you hear towards the end of that song (applied to Movement). I thought it was cool, and I really dig it.
What I do not enjoy is Sawao saying "My forward movement" in this cheesy, kind of grandiose way towards the end. I mean, that arrangement of vocal closing has been done so many times, and his tone of voice isn't exactly graceful enough to pull it off without making it sound corny as hell.

Well, musically, that part is fine in and of itself, it just feels off from the rest of the song to me.

Also, he's saying, "My forward movement," once again proving he has no concept of the art of the English language.

I can't help but think of "My True Colors" with the vocals/lyrics of that outro, which he wrote for the Collectors and is a better song.

Fair. I feel the same way up to some point (I've listened to it about five times by now I think. I should probably take a break for a while soon, hahaha). When I noticed Jun's bass line during that riff. I liked what I heard... I suppose that's supposed to be the "connection" material that saves it from being completely random. For sure it's not masterful writing, and it doesn't mesh well enough to praise the ending as "spectacular" or "awesome".
Still, first impression? This song is a damn good one.

Re: [2010.12.01] MOVEMENT - New Single
The song is alright. Why do all the intruments sound like they are all in the same noise level. I've noticed that in many of their newer albums. I don't know or take any music classes. So I don't know how that would be called. But anyways, the way the intruments sound. They sound bland. Most of their newer songs sound like that. That same sound. Maybe that's why I don't like the pillows' newer stuff. Sad fad love would have to be my last good song I enjoyed. Even then the instruments sound the same. The only thing I enjoyed was the lyrics. The guitari s pretty nice too :p Beyond the moon is a good example of what I'm talking about. Compare that to one of their newer songs. Or something.

See guys, this is why I can't take metal seriously. Ever. No matter what.

I also agree with Metal about the "sameness" of the mix. A lot of it just seemed...sort of blasted at you. And just with the construction of the song itself, Sawao didn't really let it breathe. There could definitely be some more downtime here and there. It's hard to distinguish the transition from verse to chorus to bridge. Otherwise, I like it, and I'll say that it's a step up from the recent singles we've seen. Props for Japanese lyrics. I'm not nuts about the verse riff. He does the one riff, then modulates it a bit, then does the riff again to tie it together - it's the modulated one that sounds...just a little...like I don't know where it's going. It has me make a slight face. I want to see how I perceive it once the single's actually out, and I can listen to it without the video. I'm a superficial guy, and I think I'm being swayed by three major things (I'm not joking, I'm trying to be reflective): 1) The color palette of the video. Retro, soft, unique. 2) The bold typeface of "Movement." Sexy. 3) Use of major seven chords. Makes me think of Liberty and Like a Lovesong, without even trying. Sawao can throw that shit into whatever and I'll have some natural attraction automatically. Anyway, yeah, good stuff. Not revelatory and not the big turnaround we've been hoping for...but things could be a lot worse, right? edit: Tidus, I think Metal is getting at the idea that this song is not dynamic in anyway. It doesn't play with loud/quiet, it doesn't highlight anything, it doesn't showcase any cool sonic dynamics. It's like, pop rock, in your face, for four minutes.

Actually, I agree with Metal's post. I was just pouting... metal negativity? I guess. My bad. I totally misread that post. I retract what I said.
Also, GR, I appreciate your input. Been looking forward to your initial analysis all day.
