Hybrid Rainbow.
Hands down my favorite song period.

I remember when it used to play on FLCL, and I didn't know the lyrics then, so I used to just ad-lib it.

Of course I can't come up with a favorite song, but I'd say one of their most flawless pieces of work is Kim Deal.
Sure, I love Shiroi, but the verses that start "Kodoku ni wa..." and "Kono SUUPU wa.." could use some tweaking. Strange Chameleon is glorious, but a bit too plodding at times. Sono Mirai is exhilarating, but maybe one could make a comment about its pacing. Thank You, My Twilight is the pillows at their most powerful and emotive, featuring one of Manabe's heaviest solos ever (check the Penny Lane live vid), but I don't know, you could argue that the electronic bits are a bit out of place, despite how it complements the song well.

Kim Deal breaks my fuckin' heart. Manabe's lead line, combined with Sawao's rhythm create this driving force that's also really tender at the same time. Then the chorus, with the backing vocals of "please sing/smile for me" is perfect. The fuzz on Manabe's solo is fairly unique to this song, but he manages to get some cool bell-like tones out of his guitar at the same time. The clincher is the end, with "oh-oh, oh-oh, oh, wah-oh, oh-oh, yeah...oh-oh-oh..."

A triumph.

I'm sure you saw me bawling when they played it in Kyoto. That song is perfect.

I was too busy making eye contact with Jun, singing along to his backing vocals of "please sing for meee..."
That was a moment.

It's a shame they headed out so fast. If you got a few drinks into Jun, a little time alone...

Kim Deal is a solid choice. It was pretty fucking high on my list before I looked into the pillows non-FLCL stuff, so it took a backseat for a while, but it's still one of my favorite.

Now that I think about it, Tiny Boat, Kim Deal, Last Dinosaur, and Funny Bunny are all really important to me. If any of these songs weren't on the pillows discography... well, let's just say we'd have a problem. :shred:

I've got to say, there are too many awesome tracks that
just blow your mind into some deep space shit I can't even
comprehend. Truth is, I'm sure almost every fan in IM has
had a HUGE schoolgirl crush on Hybrid Rainbow.

I was on the bus one day and my Ipod was on shuffle, once when it hit
Hybrid Rainbow, I really was nowhere near any bus or people or anything
to my knowledge. I got so lost in Sawao's lyrics, Manabe's lead, etc..
Every part of that song griped my lungs and crushed me everytime I heard
Sawao scream with all his breath "CAN YOU FEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?"

I just couldn't believe it, eight years listening to that song for God
knows how many times, and it still drives my heart wild.
It was like I just got punched in the chest while enjoying a BJ, witnessing
a Victoria's Secret 3some all at once. :dizzy:

That's one of my favorite openers ever, it's just so upbeat and amazing that it puts me in a great rockout mood no matter what's going on.

this surely would and have already been fitted in 'underrated songs' topic, but i really have to say it here, since i've given attention to it again and it hits me really hard:
04 - Tenshi Mitai ni Kimi wa Tatteta.mp3

I agree that this song is horribly underrated (I think of it as a more passionate, charming derivative of "All the Way to the Edge of this World"). The lead guitar is simply amazing, and the solo is just oozing with emotion. Whenever people talk about Good Dreams, they never mention this song, and that befuddles me... it's definately a classic on the discography. The fact that it follows "Sono Mirai wa Ima" on the album is a bonus. :shred:
