Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
Yeah, honestly I can't see it either. Because New Animal is pure win.
Tokyo Zombie, though...interesting. All I can say is that I'm loving this album's sound more and more with every song. Did anyone happen to catch what Sawao is saying about a minute or so into the song? It sounds like there are some words in there.

"KNOCK", "CAME", "AT", and "DEAD OF NIGHT".

Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
Okay, so I remember listening to the Wake up samples and thinking almost every song was horrible, something I was sadly sort of right about.
But Pied Piper! Fuck! I still hate "Ladybird girl" but the rest of these songs sound... consistently good. Great sometimes, even. I'm with Mare - this'll probably be the best album since Penalty Life.
Hell, maybe since TYMT.
EDIT: Also, props to "Tokyo Zombie." Probably their most interesting instrumental to date.

Damn, they've released the WHOLE album before the release date.

Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
It is pretty weird in that video, even for Sawao live. It's a little more normal in this one, and it was great when I heard it in NY.
I'm so damn psyched for this album.
New samples: Purple Apple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQXXvnUG3-ENo Surrender: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFP0k96YPP4
No Surrender is even more awesome than I thought it would be, I really love the contrast in feel between the verse and the chorus, and the chord progression is nice. Purple Apple sounds a lot better than I was assuming it would.

Ok, but what about that horrendous vocal on New Animal, Mare? Thoughts?

Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
He's not singing like he normally is there, if you watch him. On top of that, notice the lack of monitor in front of him, and lack of ear-piece. I'd say he probably can't really hear his voice clearly, so he's not as on target (if you've ever tried to sing when you can't hear your voice at all, you'd know how this can happen). Plus, the sound settings were a lot different than live (the echo/etc on the mic).
He's not singing like he normally is there, if you watch him.
Aside from the monitor issues: why??
At first listen, it sounds like "Wow, is New Animal just in too low a key for Sawao?" Then you sing it to yourself, and you're like: "No, this is fine...wtf is going on with Sawao?" I dunno much about singing, but the way Sawao sings the first verse is like...it sounds really dark, low, and muddled. ughhhh..

I really think that statement in and of itself should explain it. Compare it to the other live videos of it, this explanation works.

Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
I don't see anything wrong... he sounds just like he did at the Wednesday live... even maybe a bit better, if you ask me (just speaking for the opening verse).
EDIT: OK, so yeah, the Wednesday Live version is better too... xD.

Re: the pillows - tokyo zombie - pied piper
I absolutely loved the chorus to No Surrender. Purple Apple on the other hand, I liked the change in sound during the latter part of the song. The chorus was pretty good too.
