I think what he meant to say was he likes the trumpet, not so much ska
I was pleased to see a throw back to using other instruments other than guitar/drums. Alot of people forget their older songs had a very diverse instrument ist.

Who gives a shi* what it is. Whether the song is good or not is the important part.

Really? "fucking awesome?"
Hm. I know it's totally subjective, but here's my list of a few recent songs I that I feel are surprisingly more enjoyable than the new single everyone's raving about:
BOYS BE LOCKSMITH., And Hello!, Ladybird Girl, Skinny Blues, BOAT HOUSE, PROPOSE, My girl (Document Version), Frontiers, Good Dreams, Rosy Head, Sono Mirai, Walkin' on the Spiral, Liberty (Turn Back)..
..which brings me to an interesting point: If Sawao wanted horns in this new song, they should have just re-released Turn Back's Liberty and called it the new single. Then he would have gotten more of my money.
Seriously, IM. Listen to Liberty, understand how the usage of horns is so much better, and then skeet your jeans.
...which brings me to an interesting point: If Sawao wanted horns in this new song, they should have just re-released Turn Back's Liberty and called it the new single. Then he would have gotten more of my money.
How is that an interesting point? Are you saying that they can never have horns in a song because "Liberty did it right"? No, that's a completely retarded point. As far as I'm concerned, Tokyo Bambi "did it right", too. The moods are different. It's a five minute song; for the mood of the song, the horns are fantastic. Also, the widely differing song lengths also make comparing the usage of horns meaningless. The horns are not the only noteworthy thing about the song either. The way the bass and drums run has been mentioned, and is great. The way Sawao sings and the guitar sings back to him during the vocal pauses. The vocals in the verses are very frank and playful; while the chorus vocals have a great mix of declarative punch and sweet emotional sentiment. It all melds together perfectly, and feels genuinely inspired, with the emphasis on FUN. MUCH more than Ladybird Girl, this song makes me excited about what's next.
BOYS BE LOCKSMITH., And Hello!, Ladybird Girl, Skinny Blues, BOAT HOUSE, PROPOSE, My girl (Document Version), Frontiers, Good Dreams, Rosy Head, Sono Mirai, Walkin' on the Spiral, Liberty (Turn Back)...
bleck, Rosy Head, Skinny Blues, Walkin' on the Spiral... You got it right when you said it was all subjective.
"Fucking awesome?" Really. It's no skin off my nose if you don't like it as much as I do. (I don't like to speak on behalf of groups, but "my" and "I" could have easily been swapped out for "our" and "we".)
The only gripe I have is how the solo is played. That doesn't mean what he was going for was shit, it's just not played in the most effective way. In the end it's moot, because there's always the air guitar, adding appropriate note bends and stresses in the shower while it plays in your head to increase awesome ten-fold.

I don't give a shit. I like this song, better than a lot of the latest songs. (BOYS, Ladybird, And Hello! etc)
Thank God we all agree its subjective...
[clip. but for hilarity's sake, I'll include:]

genuinely inspired, with the emphasis on FUN.

Whoa whoa whoa, I didn't just slaughter your first born child, man. No need for the passionate defense.
1) Your justification for Tokyo Bambi's godliness made me laugh internally, lots. "declarative punch" and "sweet emotional sentiment"? This post wasn't translated back and forth between English and Portuguese, was it?
2) Parts of your justification read almost sarcastically: "emphasis on FUN" and "excited about what's next"? Would you consider Tokyo Bambi "the second coming of Christ in Maxi-Single form" as well?
3) Yes, it's completely subjective, that's why it struck me as being odd that you invested so much in your response (with the gratuitous bolding and italicizing and such).
4) Your opinion is invalid because Liberty is the superior song.

Truth.
Also, I don't see why the usage of the songs' horns can't be compared because of song length. Liberty did do it better. The horns in Liberty seem to flow with the song more so than the horns do in Tokyo Bambi, at least that's what I thought. Now, I'm not calling Tokyo Bambi a bad songs by any means. I'm still buying the single. But I personally wouldn't go as far as calling it an awesome song, it's just decent. I'm hoping for the b-sides to be better.

Why does this always happen? Why do you guys have to nitpick a new pillows song and compare it to other pillows songs? Liberty and Tokyo Bambi are both good songs with horn arrangements. As is all of their other songs with horn arrangements in them. In fact, I will go so far as to say the pillows have yet to release a song I didn't like at all. I'm positive this new single will deliver like all of their other singles/albums have.
As for the video, well I stand by what I said earlier; they have lost their damn minds. Especially Sawao though. But still, an excellent song and the video only makes the song better.

All I have to say is, Tokyo Bambi is treating my ears a lot better then Ladybird Girl. Ladybird Girl really didn't get to me.

i agree. it took me a couple listens to get me warmed up to ladybird girl, but with tokyo bambi i caught on to the sound really quick. maybe its the horns that get to me and remind me of liberty...but i dunno its a good song and seems to have a catchier quality to it...
