Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts

What's the risk in downloading an album anyway?
Potentially wasting 38 minutes of your life?
…
Hey, as they say, time is money. And Ooparts isn't really what I would call a good investment in either regard.
I totally disagree. It worth the download (for me, even buying the cd). You waste more time reading 43 pages talking trash about the album.

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
I've been listening to the album for quite awhile now and really enjoy it. I try not to hold it up against it's predecessors since the one thing about the pillows is that their albums don't play off each other. There I feel like the album coulda been 3-4 songs shorter though my top 5 are
1. Amaegari ni Mita Maboroshi: This song is just, so bitter sweet, and sincere. that's what I always loved about the pillows' ballads. it sounds so fresh! 2: Lemon Drops: First time I heard this song I was in love. so lively, upbeat, and simple. Reminded me of how Juliet got me to start playing music because of how simple a really good song can be. 3: Dance with God: I totally dig the plodding verse and was taken away immediately by the Chorus, The ending just strings you out in an awesome way. 4: Johnny Strobe: At first I thought this song was bland, but the guitar at the end grabbed me and made me listen to it and once I got it this song vaulted up. I love sawao's howling chorus. 5-6:Melody/Your Order: I cant decide which I like better but I love the swagger of your order and the melodies of Melody just suck me in.

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
Okay, so I finally listened to this.
I was feeling seriously depressed until we got to Beyond The Moon, which was terrific. I like Ameagari ni Mita Maboroshi as well, but I already knew that. Primer Beat was kind of interesting despite sounding like the pillows copping Good Night, but if they're going to rip someone off, their early 90s style is a good choice. I'll probably never listen to any of the other songs again.

I've given a good listen, and my view remains largely unchanged.
I love Ameagari, everything else is meh.

Whoa, allmusic gave Ooparts a 4.5/5 rating! From what I've been reading in here, the album's nothing special (I've yet to hear it myself). That's why their review caught me by surprise. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=am ... fexzealdse

allmusic is full of shit. They have no idea what they're talking about. I mean comparing OOPARTS to early Pixies is fucking ridiculous.

Re: New Album 10.14.09-Ooparts
Aye, I find it a bit ridiculous they mention Pixies in every single review. Surely, you could say late 90s Pillows showcase a lot of influence from Pixies, but I hardly see such a thing in Wake Up, Pied Piper or even Ooparts, apparently.
But then, the Pillows never were the ones to play long
Obviously they completley ignore Beyond the Moon here, since it's over six minutes long. Theses sites piss me off because they've only been reviewing their music on a regular basis since Wake up x3, so they have only the last three albums to go from, and ignore most of their better music.

Well, they've also reviewed Penalty Life (4/5), but yeah, they're missing the best stuff. But hey, I'd take allmusic over Pitchfork any day. Pitchfork is just a bunch of etilist shit.

My favorite music critique site is Pirouzu.net.

Nah those guys are uber-critical morons who hate anything catchy or simple.
