I guess some pictures are somewhat... funny?
...I thought it was really funny, like a cute little stab at American 50's culture. I mean, they did have two cities get nuked only a few years prior. I don't particularly know much about U.S./Japan relations after the war, but maybe the booklet images are suggesting something along the line of choosing to ignore the truth; not of their actions, which can be considered justified, but of their presumption that everything is all right with the world and nobody is hurting anymore or has another opinion. The last page has them all with their eyes opened after they see the drive-in feature, "Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!" So, as they are driving home, they are aware of the problems in front of them and are eager to fix things, as opposed to just aimlessly going through life.
I'm not saying it's over-the-top nationalism or anything, if that were so, then perhaps it'd be a 50's Japanese family on the last page with the open eyes. I'm also not saying this is the one correct interpretation of it, it just looks to me like a little history vignette from a Japanese POV. Also, the cover art isn't that great, but I do like what's inside the book.

Somehow I think that's digging a little deeply into things. Sawao said in the GYAO interview, if I recall correctly, that the title was directed to themselves and their music. I seriously doubt it's some sort of political statement, especially one directed at America.
Yeah... Well, I didn't, ehem, purchase the CD and I would feel cooler if I had images of the stuff on my computer. Call me silly, but If anyone has scans, I'd love 'em.
If no one scans them soon, I'll do it.

No, I know... It's just that when I unwrapped it and was leafing through, I was telling mom what each page was and she was like, "OOOH, I see. And let me guess, they're all Japanese with their eyes open at the end?"
XD "No mom, it's not like that. See, look, it's the same family."
Singing in another language, doctored photos of white people, it must be propaganda! :3
Heh, I forgot to mention that. I was really tired last night. My initial take on it was, "HURR HURR, PHOTOSHOP, LOL." I mean, what do you expect, she listens to country, everything has to have a grand message or a story to tell.

OK people, time for my two cents. I may be late to the party, but I just got the CD a couple days ago. Let me start off by saying that I actually found this CD pretty enjoyable. My thoughts:
-I noticed that most songs tried to use the whistling thing, which seemed very gimmicky and redundant after a while.
-The only song I didn't like that much was Skinny Blues. It tries to be too much like Biscuit Hammer.
-Is it me, or do some of these songs feel surfy? I don't know what it is...
-The album on the whole felt like a mix between Smile, TYMT, and My Foot.
-I actually liked Serious Plan. Youngster was too pop-y for me. Private Kingdom was really good. The chorus almost sounded like The Back Horn's stuff. Baggy Day's guitar kind of sounded like an old Supercar song, except meh. Boat House was great, with probably the best solo on the album.
-I noticed Sawao's vocals were a little better, less nasaly in parts.
Overall, improvement from My Foot.

My only dissapointment of this album was there was no full english song. My guess is because the last album had two english sung songs on them.

this really is a pretty great album... compared to my foot.
it grows on me every time i listen, but it's still quite eh at certain parts. like all of scarecrow.

In the end this album ended up really disappointing me. Scarecrow and the last two songs are the only ones from this album I'll probably end up going back to, if at all. The album isn't downright horrible, it just fails to do anything particularly memorable, which is much worse in my opinion than an album with really good songs and really bad songs. This is really disappointing in light of the fact that they seem to have tightened up a lot musically as of late - Sawao's singing better than he has in years, Jun is doing more interesting stuff on bass, and Manabe still has the chops, at least. The overall feel of the album is more of the same post-2003 stuff, somewhere between PL and GD.
I thought My Foot was a major improvement over its predecessor despite the filler crap sandwiched between the title track, the singles, and March of The God. From there on, however, the album was up there with the best of their post-2000 music. I don't know why it gets so much crap in retrospect when it was really a much better and more memorable album than this.
