Post Re: IM's pillows top 100
How the hell am I supposed to make a top 10 list? Sure, I had one at one point about 8 or 9 years ago... but holy shit is this tough. I'm just throwing this together and all of it is basically subject to change, except maybe the top two, and is in no real order. And I agree with Sheer's comments on the previous page. I don't care if it's overplayed, I like me my stuff from the holy trinity! :hmph:

1. ROSS
2. Crazy Sunshine
3. One Life
4. Strange Chameleon
5. Freebee Honey
6. No Self Control
7. The Third Eye
8. TYMT
9. Kono yo no hate made
10. Bokura no haree suisei (TB version)

Already I want to make changes... but, whatever
not in the list, but I wanna say it anyway cause no one else is gonna say it: Freebee Honey. Maybe the most criminally underrated/under-talked-about pillows track. I remember people coming around on Foreigner a long time ago, but I don't recall people losing it over Freebee Honey. Which they should have.
Just saw this now. I did in fact lose my shit over Freebee Honey, which is why I have it listed on my top 10. That was one of the first songs I listened to outside of the FLCL soundtrack. That's when I realized, "Holy crap this is the most awesome sound to ever come across my ears!" I flipped my shit when I heard them soundchecking it in Chicago when I saw them live back in 2005, and I was in heaven when they actually played it during the show. It was only played three times on that tour, and two of those were in Chicago. They've only played it live once since then, 9/16/2012. I consider myself very very VERY lucky to have seen them perform that live. Freebee Honey will always be a very special song for me.

Ha, I was singing Freebee Honey at work last week.

But my vote is still 10 votes for Strange Chameleon. Count them or face abuse of mod powers and bannage.
I'm glad my ten votes for Strange Chameleon make up for it being so low on your list. :hmph:
Haha. I didn't really order them. And I cut some stuff, too!!

Although arguably one could say the first songs to come to mind (closer to the top) are clearly my favorites... I waffled on one or two though when I was first trying to get it down to ten before I gave up and kept going.

I'd say that Strange Chameleon, Swanky Street, and One Life are like top 3 in "nostalgia" factor I guess. Even though I didn't start out listening to them cause I found the pillows from FLCL, well except one life, but they just have a nostalgic, warm fuzzy feeling about them.

Post Re: IM's pillows top 100
So it begins, and in no specific order:

1. One Life (this one was easy - first song of theirs I loved)
2. Daydream Wonder (another easy one - first song that got me into their earlier stuff)
3. Liberty - Something Else version (wish I had a full version of this song)
4. Boku Wa Kakera - :D
5. Kanojo Wa Kyou - Chills all day
6. Something Like A Romance
7. Ice Pick - Acoustic version.. many tears shed
8. That House - This song has THE classic pillows sound to me.
9. Patricia - Album Version.. Those sweet sweet Manabe fills
10. Future - There's a lack of new songs on here, and I listen to this one once nearly every day since I first heard it.

This list was done in 10 minutes. I had to limit myself, otherwise I know I would dive into a multi-hour session of re-listening to a plethora of songs.
I also know that everyone and their mom is in love with Strange Chameleon. I put it on this list maybe 3 times, but I kept finding songs that I prefer more. I guess we're all different. I was surprised that I didn't put Fool on the Planet, Boku Wa Hare Suisei, Thank You My Twilight, and Swanky Street. These are all songs I love, and I might find them more "Iconic" in The Pillows discography. They, however, do not make my top 10.

Happy belated 9/16 all!

I never considered it in my 'Top Ten' but I also really liked Hibi no uta from the first time I heard it.

.. I know it's going to sound crazy and I might face ridicule, but also from the first time I heard it, it reminded me of the song that was the jingle playing on the record in that one episode of the Rugrats that was a flashback of Stu and Drew in Grandpa Lou's repair shop. I don't even know if it is that similar, I haven't seen that episode in probably 10+ years. :dizzy: Am I off my rocker for thinking this? Does anyone even have any idea what I am talking about? :dizzy:

Don't remember that, yaro. Sorry.

Also, Hibi no Uta is a great song. The first time I heard it, it sound like a song I'd always known my entire life. Same thing happened when I first heard Ride on Shooting Star. The melodies were just perfectly catchy. All of the hooks worked. It's just a perfect song.

I gotta say, I appreciate seeing Happy Birthday on your list, Cloudy. That song is awesome.

I don't remember the song but it's funny you say that because a week or two ago I was playing Super Mario Bros with a friend and my sister and a song reminded me of Rugrats when Tommy was being a brat because his stuffed lion was ruined or something. I'm pretty sure they didn't know what I was talking about, haha.

Totally irrelevant, but let me just join this Rugrats nostalgia-fest by saying that I still to this day say "It's not my house, it's MY house." a la the episode where Tommy stays at Chuckie's and tries to make him do things his way.

This Rugrats tangent is just too real for me right now.
