Some of us are form the US, right? If there are mor than two true fans here, then that's all the base I need.
My friends don't really care for The Pillows. When I started freaking out a while ago about the rumors of their US tour, my buddies just watched me run and round and said, "she really loves those guys, huh?" I made one of my firends a two disc mix of pillows music, but she said thanks and hasn't talked to me about it...>.>
It's a shame that they don't care for them... oh well, their loss.

ok, ok you're, the majority of the fans here in the forum are from the U.S., but don't forget the brazillian fans too, like me! ^^
and talking about the topic, i don't think that the pillows are going to turn a "mainstream band" or have their pvs on the MTV... even after the show in U.S.
bye^^

Better now then never, imo.
I hate mainstream stuff, so i woldn't want them to be.

if my friends start listening to them, I start to not like them as much because they start humming the songs and stuff. It's really weird.

If anything like that were ever to happen, it would be our duty to immediately get in contact with the Pillows and urge them to give MTV the bird.

the pillows shouldnt go mainstream in america. they would be totally ruined by all the scene kids and stuff, who annoy me so freaking much.
regardless of the pillows' actual chances of making it big in the united states, if they were to release an album in the US and subsequently enjoy the windfalls of having mass media exposure, a hit single or two on the US charts, and a widespread US tour, all the while staying true to their own artistic vision (as opposed to the mainstream's or the fans'), why wouldn't that be a great thing?
no matter what genre of music you look at, there are always listeners of that genre who listen for the entirely wrong reasons. why would you ever change your opinion of a band solely due to an increase in poseurs claiming fanhood for some sort of intangible sense of credibility?
mtv and its ilk, especially clear channel on the radio front, rarely do what they should be doing: exposing music to the masses. instead, they often choose to seize upon what could constitute hit material and overexpose it, often further marginalizing the product with format shows and stations. but overexposure alone does not lessen the objective quality of music; it takes a move from the artist(s) to accomplish that.
now, as for the pillows' actual chance of making it big in the US...i doubt they will extend beyond their niche of popularity, though they can surely expand that niche with more shows in the US. i could see a conan appearance sometime over the next few years, but it'd require a strong move on either the part of whoever is in charge of lining up bands for the conan o'brien show, or the pillows' management.

you make some very good points. but like the others said, they won't stand a chance because of the language thing. this is actually something that i have not noticed simply because i don't know too much music from different languages, except for spanish.
as for them appearing on conan, i think that we'd have to kidnap the guy in charge of lining up the bands and force him to see the pillows at SXSW or an NYC show (that is if they do line one up. even tho they never mentioned playing NYC).

A little something about the Conan thing:
posted on 2004-07-16 01:23:47
Pierre Bernard's "Recliner of Rage" skit on Conan O'Brien mentioned Adult Swim and a number of anime shows this evening. Bernard complained about AS replacing Cowboy Bebop with Case Closed, explaining that he liked Cowboy Bebop in its time slot because the music is soothing and good for sleeping. He then said they should put on Sakura Diaries, Amazing Nurse Nanako, or Bubblegum Crisis. The episode will repeat tomorrow evening and Monday on Comedy Central.
Pierre Bernard is a nerd guy who comes on Conan every-so-often and talks about nerd things no one understands or cares about. Maybe since FLCL aired on AS a few times Bernard could tell Conan about the Pillows, and viola'.
