After hearing those I think I set my expectations too high. I was hoping for another Discharge. We'll see I guess.
This will be better than Discharge because of the bass lines alone.

All the people who fapped over Jun's lackluster bass in the last batch of albums better be blowing their minds over this shit.

Kashima= what is missing from today's pillows music.

That, and Sawao's brother writing his English lyrics :P

I disagree.
Kashima is a great bassist, but hearing his bass in any of the recent pillows' works would only be like putting icing on the meatloaf. Take Devil's Pub for example... The bass is great, but that's really the only positive note I have for it.

I haven't listened to the song samples, but I have pretty low expectations after seeing the clips of the PVs. :hmph:

Also, the beard is fake, right? That can't be real.
If that thing is real, it's the most fake looking real beard I have ever seen.

I find it odd to hear a somewhat tepid response to The Devil's Pub, it sounds catchy. The main theme is bright and funky, it has a fun energy. His odd vocals don't seem too out of place, I'd like to see the lyrics because it sounds close enough that a cover band could feasibly fix the grammar and keep the pace. I like the repeating lyrics (smells, smells, smells, smells, smells, trash trash trash trash trash) :)

Vacant House sounds good too, I don't have a lot to say about it right now but it's cool.

Yeah this is likely to be way better than Discharge. Not a whole lot stood out on that album. Dawn Speech, Purple Moonlight and burn bread are pretty much all I liked on there. I got a good feeling from most of the sound clips too, the accompaniments and mood sound fresh.

We gotta expect a bad song or two though, who wants to bet which one it will be? lol Beautiful Lip, I'm looking at you. I feel like Youth Club might come up up short but we'll see.

I disagree.

I don't think any of the recent pillows works would even exist if Kashima was their bassist for any of the 00's albums. There would be totally different music.

But you're right about Devil's Pub, it's riding on Kashima's Coattails for the most part. But I still like it as a whole.

Looks legit to me (though it would have taken him several weeks to grow it that long). Sawao doesn't exactly seem to be able to grow a ton of facial hair.

1:05-1:06 is the close-up. It looks pretty wispy like pulled cotton or some other similar material. Thats what I think anyways.

Lol, looks to me as though he sucked off a graying truck driver and forgot to clean the guy's pubes off of his face before stumbling onto the set.

Although it's not exactly the same, the start of Vacant House reminded me of Walkin' on the Spiral (which I think is a rip from some other song that I don't know the name of).

I think I like the Devil's Pub better.

Walkin' on the Spiral's riff is most commonly attributed to Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" (and used more contemporarily in a million other songs, like Green Day's Brain Stew). But 25 or 6 to 4 ripped it from a Led Zeppelin song, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"... which probably ripped it from some old blues song.

There is a very fine line between a song ripping off another song and a song using the same cliched chord progression as another song. Admittedly though, when I first heard Walkin' on the Spiral, I immediately thought "lol, 25 or 6 to 4"…

By no means was I being derogatory with my use of "rip". I'm not sure how wholly "original" you can even be nowadays. And often when artists do it contemporarily, (at least established ones, such as the pillows) it's out of respect/tribute to the original, if not just a use of a cliched progression/etc.

Trying to be original is for... I don't even know. Idiots? Any originality, in my opinion, comes from the development and perfection of ones own style. You can only develop your own style by learning off of your influences. So yeah, if you start out with the intention of being "completely original" you'll probably end up doing it wrong. Each stroke of genius will bring its own piece of originality with it.

Indeed. And as we're aware from the 24824264 direct Beatles and other nods, something like that's never been their intention.
