I don't really make a distinction. I mean, obviously most of thier songs are in Japanese as opposed to a language i'd understand, but I don't listen to them just because they're Japanese. With the exception of some of our users who understand Japanese, we're essentialy listning to someone speak jibberish, even if we can pick out a few words just from hearing to it so often. What makes Sawao's singing 'special' is still there for me wether he's speaking Engrish or Japanese.
I wouldn't mind the English songs as much if it actually sounded decent. I don't mind the occasional English word popping up in a song, but a full English song really bothers me. At best, I consider Sawao's engrish to be cute. I don't think Sawao wanted to be cute when he wrote Subhuman. Or this song. I don't listen to the pillows/Sawao because they're Japanese. Though the lyrics being in Japanese added a mysterious element to ther songs, what I initially fell in love with was the music. Hell, I thought Purple Apple was going to be awesome, until "Mai wochi isu faibu minitsu surou."

I liked it. I enjoyed listening to it. Yeah, his voice was low pitched and hard to understand but whatever. I wonder if he borrowed Manabe's thinline...
The backing vocals by the female guitarist really help set it apart from a typical Pillows track as well.
Yeah, for me that was one of the best things about the song. It's good. For me, the chorus was the best part, even though I realize it's not that imaginative.
Good enough in my book to look forward to the rest.
Hey, i've played an ESP before and wasen't overly impressed. I figure they must like them for some reason since Manabe's LP was an ESP too.

I like this song. It is much better than his solo work from my room is delicious. And the thinline he is using has to be Manabe's, remember the Ame ni Utaeba live. Sawao probably wanted a brighter sound than the mahogany red thinline. And seeing Jun with a Mustang bass is funny. I love to hear Sawao play lead lines, his solo is interesting in this. I'll probably buy this with OOPARYS TOUR.

I dig this so much more than what the pillows have released in the last 3-5 years, not trolling

Wrong Vacation and Nobody Can Find Me were both great. But I already learned to dismiss anything you say, way back when:
My girlfriend & friends from Japan were the ones who told me this. I had shown them the music I write and they told me the melodies have a Japanese flavor to them.
And then when you totally punked out when asked to define, or even record, what you mean by "Japanese flavor." Remember that? Good times. Then you said that you, as opposed to us other IMers, "have a life." Oh wow.

How the fuck is that relevant to the thread? Stop bitching and go be asspained somewhere else.

Re: Sawao Yamanaka solo album - Discharge - 6/23/2010
Hearing this, I finally realize how boring the pillows have been in general from 2007 until now. These songs are just so... expected. The lack of surprises or originality is really starting to nag at me. When I heard this song I was pained by how "pleasant" it sounded.
Then again I guess Sawao is getting old, he probably isn't focusing on being on the cutting edge anymore. Everything seems to be for "fun" or "old memories" now. I'm tired of that sound. I need something more now. *Goes back to listening to Number Girl/awesome-pillows*.
I'm not saying that everything needs to be awesome, but I just get this mundane feeling when I listen to this stuff. It's really not inspiring at any level for me at all.
