Show me one band that has fans all over the world (of magnitude to the pillows) that isn't living very comfortably, and I'll renounce my statement.
Impulse.
Remember The Ramones
or even Pixies.
Uh, those bands are not only significantly more popular than the pillows, but I'm sure that each living member of those bands could buy the houses of everyone on IM combined.

As for Impulse...what?

the pillows are playing in the damn Tokyo Budokan.

What's the most luxurious venue the Ramones or Pixies performed?

the pillows are in the top 5 japanese charts

Were the Pixies or Ramones ever IN the charts?

Yeah, it's true. the pillows aren't an "underground" band anymore. Their albums/singles for the past two years have all opened within the top 5 on Oricon. So we can't say they can't afford to accommodate a few people overseas travel for their contest. Now that I think about it... I specifically remember the rules saying this contest was sponsored by Avex. So maybe it's them being cheap and not the pillows themselves.

That's pretty much my point. The pillows are pretty damn significant.

Also, despite the Ramones' and Pixies' inability to chart or fill stadiums, they still lead very popular and lucrative careers. I mean, who hasn't heard of the Ramones?

What..?

Also:
In 1995, the Ramones came out with ¡Adios Amigos!, announcing that they planned to break up if the album was not a hit. Its sales were unremarkable, garnering it just two weeks on the lower end of the Billboard chart.
The pillows are significant. In no way did I say they were anywhere near as significant as the Ramones or the Pixies.

What exactly are you confused about? It's like you are trying to point out inconsistencies that aren't actually inconsistent.

My point is: The Ramones are NOT as popular and successful as the pillows, Pixies and Ramones are more known of being pioneers in their respective genres, and influencing other artists, that's why they are so 'popular'. The
Pillows aren't popular for the reason The Ramones/Pixies are, but they are clearly (at this moment in time) more popular than them. They're going to play at one of the most important venues on the world, anyone popular enough to achieve that must have loads of money, at least to take 10 people from all over the world and bring them to Tokyo.

Like Tidus said, the pillows aren't an underground band anymore, but sadly The Ramones and Pixies were always an underground band.

Ok, Brainstorming here, I have about two weeks or so left to finish my current project for class, so I'll need to have my idea planned out in the mean time so I can start filming as soon as possible.

I'm leaning towards an idea I got a couple days ago for the song Youngster. I'm thinking of incorporating film of myself jogging in time to the drum beat, shoot some footage of a relative playing in a park (see-saw, spinner, etc.) There is a baseball field and an outdoor stage right across the street from school, I want to incorporate them in some manner. Some of the film students are in a band, perhaps they could help me out (close shots for english lines "set you free" "let you go" etc.)

The narrative I'm working on here is that the child and myself are the same person at different ages. The child runs, plays, does everything in circles (A child's life). Meanwhile, the young adult knows that he must continue moving forward through life (Always running down a road). I'm trying to think of the best portrayal of this theme before worrying about the specifics at this point.

Basically I'm just gathering ideas here. I'm trying to think of shots that could concisely portray the narrative. It's a two minute song, so I'm definitely considering adding some time in the beginning to establish a narrative before the music starts. I have to make sure I keep the narrative brief and immediately identifiable, as well as not being filmed in a boring manner. Same goes for all footage during the song, but that goes without saying.

Son Goshin, what are you currently planning? Do you have a song in mind yet?

inb4 Youngster sucks because it doesn't! You suck! :hmph: ^_^

Damn words.

Who cares about how popular the pillows are to other bands such as the Ramones or the Pixies.
This Thread has skewed a little off topic, not entirely but just a little. It doesn't matter. :dizzy:
Focus on the contest and not the logistics of who pays what and how cheap some may be.

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one that has ever done this :P

And I agree with Brye, back on topic.

What program do you use to sequence drums? The only thing I'm familiar with is Guitar Pro, and I don't think that's very good

I'm curious for all of us covering songs for this contest....are you doing straight covers by keeping the arrangements and instruments the same, or are you interested in doing a more interpretive cover with your own take on a song? Anyone doing anything with classical instruments??

^I'm doing a classical cover with piano and violin. For "All the Way to the Edge of This World".
