I'm not going to write a review or anything like that, I'm basically going to say that the album rocked.

The album grew on me more the second time I listened to it. I can understand that people may think that [b]YOUNGSTER [/b]sounds too much like Beat Crusaders, but I tend to like their style of music, too. BOAT HOUSE is still my favorite on the CD. I think it's more upbeat than [b]Patricia [/b](which was more of a "lost George Harrison" song), giving it that sort of Lennon/McCartney feel to it.

Lol, I enjoyed listening to Youngster. It was pretty catchy.

Guys, I'm gonna throw this out there, because I've listened to the album a few times now and this has only become more apparent in that time:

I still don't quite understand the harsh criticism of PROPOSE, but for those who want more distortion, at least realize that they will probably play it that way live anyway.

Yeah, the live version they played in LA was a lot cooler. It's a rocking song, but I did think the album version was too smooth and lacking in the texture of the live version (which, I guess, makes sense considering it's studio vs. live, but they could have done it differently if they wanted - then again I think it's cool to give your songs some different treatment live than just playing the exact studio recording).

As for the album, I like most of it so far. YOUNGSTER is forgettable and pretty generic (which is saying a lot for being a new pillows song, amirite!). I like the three songs we'd already heard. Sweet Baggy Days isn't very good, and I kinda wish the chorus had some more substance to it than SWEET SWEET BAGGY DAYS. Most of the solos on this album aren't that good either, which is disappointing. I like Private Kingdom and BOAT HOUSE.

It'll be a while before I'm sure how I feel about the album, but it's certainly not bad. Specifically I think Sawao sounds really good on this album compared to the last couple. That said, I just can't shake the suspicion that the other members are generally kind of falling asleep playing their parts.

In other news, based on his post, seems like thejedipunk is aspiring to be Culen 2.0 (no offense to Culen). Every song's a ripoff of something else, makes perfect sense!

I think the impulse to hate the new stuff is clouding your judgment. Honestly, even if you think the new stuff is super bad, you have to consider that you're comparing it to Gazelle City ~atomic age version and Bad Dreams.

One is a remix and the other I think is pretty unfairly maligned. I consider YOUNGSTER worse than the both of them because it truly sounds like an immensely devolved version of the pillows' previous exercises in "vapid pop."

EDIT: Also, unlike Jedi and Dizzid, I think the second side of [i]Wake Up![/i] is hella solid, if a little unremarkable. So I'm not predisposed to h8.

I have to say that I really, really dislike Youngster. It really annoys me.



I was hoping it would sound better after the first few listens.

5. yeah, it is a stupid solo. decent song... nothing amazing. fitting that it's in the middle of the album.
6. wayyy too much shit going on for this song's own good... prechorus is just some kind of vomitous thing before a pretty poppy/catchy chorus. again, belongs in the middle of the album.


*mental note: god, it's not as bad as scarecrow led me to believe, but it's also not an amazing album yet*

No. Don't get me wrong. I don't really hate the album. I like 6 of the songs to some extent (1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10). I actually really like Skinny Blues for the most part, which is why the sheer fucking dumb of the solo irritates me so badly. If it were a bad song I wouldn't give a shit. Though, the vocal melody in the verse is pretty damn generic.
