True. But while other's are smart asses at times, most of them have something to contribute once in a while.
What are the chances the pillows will come back next year? What do you guys think? I have a feeling they will play at SXSW again next year and probably contnue to do so. Hopefully, if they do, they will also include and extended tour making more stops than they did last time.

there's poking fun, and then there's spam... *cough*
considering that the tour is being called 'miraculous' (it seriously says that in the japanese description for the dvd) i don't see how they couldn't come back.
whether or not that's just exaggeration, they were really surprised at the enthusiastic welcome.

Wouldn't it be nice if they pulled a Yoshiki and got aprtments over here for part of the year? Probably won't happen but you never know.

Some of us went to some real lengths to make damned sure they knew we wanted them here and wanted them to be happy with their reception in America- I know I did, and I know I wasn't the only one.
In fact, the welcome they got at SXSW was duplicated almost exactly at every place they played, and it was totally spontaneous- which I think is part of the miracle. They expected to be well-received, but I don't think they were ready for the outpouring of evidence that we really knew them- Manabe was absolutely shocked when I showed him the two Nine Mile CDs after showing him the two cases of Pillows CDs and DVDs.
If you read the reports people posted, that sort of thing wasn't unique at all. And that's why they're STILL a bit dumbfounded. They had far more penetration into the American music scene than they guessed.
The weird things is that most of us know them from FLCL, and that particular Anime is still not very well known, relatively speaking. All I can figure is that The Pillows are so great to listen to that most of us have become Pillows evangelists- I play their stuff for anyone I can get to hold still.... and there just has to be a lot of people doing that.

I'm sorry but all my posts arent just me being a smart ass, i do have things to say that arent just wise cracks.
I'm sorry back there, but i believe way back when i said "I'm gonna e-mail them and see if they can possibly come to NYC" i got made fun of. I was mostly just laughing at the fact that he said that if they got the pillows drunk and gave them instuments they'd play an acoustic set.

Aw, hell- there's plenty to laugh about, that's for sure.
Sawao might be a little hesitant, but if you watch him when they're goofing around, he's as likely as anyone to ham it up. Manabe I don't think can be in a room with a guitar without picking it up and checking it out, and I've seen Shin do a whole music video with one drum. I think he'd even drum on a tenor uke if he didn't strum it.
So is it really so far-fetched that they'd do an impromptu jam? I don't mean with a hundred people, but if you got them in a room eating dinner and drinking and some instruments were laying around?
Feh. All you'd have to do was start playing yourself and they'd laugh their asses off and then take a swing at it themselves. They're PARTY HEADS. I don't think they could help themselves.
I mean- do you really think they'd go "sorry- not in the contract"?
If they were THAT stuck up they wouldn't be doing stage dives.

I do the same for my coworkers and classmates. 99% of the people I've played the music for instantly loved it. And I mean "instantly"! I even got my personal trainer into them; and he now wants to see them live next time around. (I might be taking him to see Puffy).
I can most definetly see the Pillows back here as early as November. With a new album coming out and the US DVD coming out, it'd be hard for them to not perform in places that had a huge impact on them.
Maybe next time they'll play in Boston. After all, Beantown is home to Sawao's favorite band (Pixies). And bigger clubs for more people. The Knitting Factory was awesome; but I couldn't even tie my shoe without being trampled on.

I think they might even go farther than that. What I mean is, they like to travel around and see stuff, so I wouldn't be surprized if, besides playing larger venues, they did some short sets at a few hole-in-the-wall places just because they were close to the Grand Canyon or something.
Hell, Caribbean Lights was only 400 people (ok, 463, according to the Fire Marshall that fined Elizabeth that night). While I'm sure they'd jump at a 10,000 seat arena if they thought they could pack it, they love the closeness to the audience- you guys know that. And like the Anime Insider interview said, they ain't above drinking beer, hanging out and eating Mexican food in a roadside icehouse.
So I think you guys should go for it! Tell them who you are, where you're at, and what you want to do. Make it interesting for them to swing by.
So what if it's a long shot? They just might be scouting Music Video locations, right? Send 'em some jpegs.
The Beatles didn't look half-bad in gunslinger cowboy getup on the Rubber Soul album; shit- they've already done an album cover in drag; can't just you just see Jun Suzuki with six-guns? Like out in Tucson or something?
Ok, that was over the top.
But seriously- we got their attention. NOW is the time to expect another miracle.

but you just can't expect that much out of them. You can't just send them e-mails telling them to come to your hometown or something. I have a feeling next time they come(if they do), they're not gonna play hole-in-the-wall places. Their probably gonna be going for larger venues. Or e-mail them saying "wanna get drunk with me at some mexican place near me"
So many of those e-mails probably dont even run through to the pillows themselves anyway.

Nah, you'd have to be intelligent about it to have even a slight chance- but let's say you lived in Roswell, for instance...and you knew there were enough people to fill a local nightclub....
...you could email Chie or Kaz and introduce yourself and include a few pictures and a bit of background on the place, then point out how easy it is to get to from their likely itinerary, and how cool it would be to get their pictures taken at the ALE-E-INN or by the roadsign. Whatever. Lie.
And then you could get the manager of the nightclub to contact their booking agent. Meanwhile, ask to have a personal email forwarded to Sawao. You think he's too good to read his mail?
Sure, he probably has someone screen it. But if you can spell and ESPECIALLY if you can get it into Japanese, why wouldn't he? He doesn't have to answer if he doesn't want to.
But he might.
You never know. No guts; no glory.
OTOH, it's easier to just spud out.

well, a couple years ago, i think many of us would have thought it'd be pretty farfetched for them to come to the US.
yet somehow or another something convinced them to take the chance. buuut, something a little more convincing than lots of wishful thinking.

It would be awesome if they played at some "hole In the wall" places...Seeing how I live in Nebraska and all...But there's tons of small venues here.
Who knows, We got U2, Motley Crue, Paul Mcartney, and Greenday...It's a start.

If someone came and told me two years ago that two years later I would hop on a plane and ly out of Canada and into New York to see my favorite band in some random 21+ bar for 5 bucks I wouldn't believe them...
