Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
lol yeah, thought we've been over Walkin' on the Spiral before.
The riff used in that and Brain Stew, most commonly associated with 25 or 6 to 4 appeared before that in Zeppelin's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, as linked above by Bebop. Though I'm sure the origins are probably older than that and Zeppelin prolly took it from some old blues song.

It's from a folk song from Anne Bredon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Bredon
Agreed, however I always thought that Walkin' on the spiral was more in the style of Green Day's Brainstew. Here's mine: Swanky Street's intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3YEumyAy7I&feature=kpThe Stone Roses - This is the one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXfnZ7HYD_k&feature=kp
Wow, interesting one.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
So I was listening to TMGE's Abakareta sekai, and I noticed a sample during the solo reminded me some of the lead guitar part in Smile. I don't know which interpolated who first, but it's still mysterious that those samples sound similar.
Oh yeah how can anyone forgotten this classic sample: James Brown - Funky Drummer
the pillows - Tokyo Bambi. The sample is of course sped up (in dnb tempo) so it's hard to hear it clearly. If you're curious enough though, you can experiment yourself by slowing down the sample to see if it matches. If you listen to it closely, it can also be heard throughout the whole song.

Interpolation of a riff:
ONE LIFE's Intro
THE WILLARD - Good Evening Wonderful Fiend's intro
Hmm they sound pretty similar. What do you guys think?

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
When I listened to Melody I remembered a similar sounding chorus and I think this might.... be it... Melody is a little faster but I swear there was a song out there that fits well with it. I'm not sure if this is the song but might as well post it now and come back to it later. The Pillows - Melody http://youtu.be/5JlGEXN_Y4o?t=2m31sFastball - The Way http://youtu.be/nU-XLNs4TCY?t=2m16s

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Do you think that in the 'Trip Dancer' PV the frisbee (the big one) is a reference to 'The Who', or is it just a coincidence that the frisbee looks like the logo of 'The Who'?

I believe Sawao has a sticker of The Who's logo on the back of one of his guitars.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
It's a symbol used by mod subculture (it's a Royal Air Force roundel). the pillows use it often, like recently on the 25th anniversary logo and the 2nd movement poster.

A ton of bands have used it, so it's hard to say who influenced the pillows to do the same. My guess would be The Collectors.

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Yeah, the song uses the g-am-bm-c chord progression similar to the one used in Strange Chameleon's intro and solo. Also: The Stone Roses - I am The Resurrection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BfnXX7EvhM&feature=fvstthe pillows - SUICIDE DIVING http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdxeVMua3DMThe intros have similar rhythm.
Try this one with SUICIDE DIVING's rhythm and a similar guitar riff starting around 0:15: Moody Blues - It's Up To You (1970) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE3JBYPVlq8For Swanky Street, I'm not sure if it's directly based on anything, but there are a number of songs using basically the same very distinct chords. Here are two that come to mind, one that predates it and another that doesn't. Radiohead - Lift (1996) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiQSf2Huk6gGuided By Voices - Main Street Wizards (2003) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_okvPiIeOI

Re: The PIllows Shout Outs!
Well the Suicide Diving one sounds more clear if you listen to the Live Beat version. the bass sounds identical as if it was a tribute. Also the Roses song seems to be based off The Beatles' song If I Needed Someone.
As for the Swanky Street one, the melody just sounds identical to my ears and nothing more.
