Re: the pillows COVER CONTEST 〜ROAD to NIPPON BUDOKAN!!!〜
But who? We need to focus on a few of us then. I suggest that when a group is finished with recording, link it to IM so that we can all see who has the best chances of getting in to the top 20. WE NEED SOMEONE FROM IM TO GO!!! The tribute CD is all that really matters, if one of us can get a hold of one of them during the show, we can show them how we really feel.
I agree. The CD is all that matters. Even if we dont win someone on IM might end up going, which means they can try theyre best to give the CD to the band.

Re: the pillows COVER CONTEST 〜ROAD to NIPPON BUDOKAN!!!〜
I hate it that only two people can go per group. I was also wondering if I could help out someone else but not make it my main entry, I don't wanna screw up by getting disqualified by being in two videos

Raid, don't risk it. At least, don't appear "clearly in the video" like the rules say you should. Be like, off camera. EDIT: OR, y'know. Wear a mask.
^Yeah, that's the lame part of this contest. To be fair, it costs a lot of money to ship people overseas.
Yeah, but honestly, either being an internationally renown band isn't as lucrative as I thought, or the pillows are being really stingy with this contest.

I'm going, but not because of the contest.

Problem is, the pillows aren't internationally renown. Being popular enough to sell out a few small clubs in the U.S.'s biggest cities doesn't exactly make them huge in America. And while they've become more popular in Japan, they're still nothing giant.

That kinda makes them internationally renown. We have fans on this forum alone from both Americas, as well as Europe. Any band that can get even their name across so many borders ought to be able to afford to fully finance their own contest.

Dude, it's the internet age. Bands not even signed can have fans all over the world. None of this means the pillows are easily able/willing to fund travel for up to ten people where airfare alone can be $800-2000 a person. They're gonna be spending upwards of $10,000 to bring the contest winners to the concert, that's a fairly impressive figure itself. Just because they're known in some communities abroad doesn't magically make them big enough for their label to give them an open checkbook. You're making them out to be a lot bigger than they are.
And I really don't think anything else needs to be said on the matter.

You really overestimate the internet age, as well as the pillows' dependency on the internet and their overall popularity - domestically and abroad. Show me one band that has fans all over the world (of magnitude to the pillows) that isn't living very comfortably, and I'll renounce my statement. Of course, $10,000 would surely be impressive if Average Joe (and his two friends) were footing the bill, but that really isn't the case.
And I really think anything else that is said on the matter is going to be absurdly stupid.

Haha, problem is you can't really say that after replying right after I said the same thing.
But $10,000 is still a lot of money to front for one single contest. Maybe not for a million+ selling band/artist on an American label, but the rest of the world isn't exactly like that. Even as the second biggest market in the world, Japan's still a lot smaller. Oh well, but when they're doing something awesome for their fans, and have done stuff like toured the U.S. (trips that they probably don't do terribly better than breaking even on), keep calling the pillows cheap if you'd like to.

Remember The Ramones or even Pixies.

it's actually probably the record company who's going to be spending the money for this, it's good promotion for the pillows. If anything, the Pillows themselves will probably make money off of it
