As I have said many times before, I don't care what anyone says about PENALTY LIFE. That album is track after track of rockin' songs. Not a single dud in the mix.
I don't even remember ever reading any decent arguments on why it's such a bad album. Just a bunch of the ever so intelligent "Penalty Life sux!" and the bashing on anyone who isn't afraid to admit that they like the album. It seems like people around here just say that they hate PENALTY LIFE to be "in". They really don't have any reasons to back up their hatin'.

Or not and they honestly dislike it based on problems they found with the album that they have discussed time and time again.
Or not and they honestly dislike it based on problems they found with the album that they have discussed time and time again.
Three CajunBushi© points say that you can't provide me with a link.
Seriously, I have been around the online pillows community since way before PENALTY LIFE's release and I don't remember reading any good arguments on why it is as bad as people say it is. Maybe it has actually been so long that I have forgotten, but my memory rarely fails me and I doubt that. I know that people like to make fun of Sawao's voice in the PL songs saying stuff like "Sawao on helium lol" and "he sounds like a frog", but then the same people who make these statements go on and praise THANK YOU, MY TWILIGHT; an album where Sawao sounds EXACTLY THE SAME! Makes no sense. If the beef is with the songs (instruments, arrangements etc.)... I'm still waiting to hear some good arguments.
I believe that Mellie said it best;
some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.
I am just tired of seeing people get bashed (at a pillows community!) just because they like one of the albums that some of the members have decided that they don't like. I have no problem if PL isn't your thing, but I just think that it's extremely immature of you people for making fun of everyone who does like the album and repeatedly posting your "PL sucks" drivel every time someone mentions it.

Penalty Life lacks the caliber of songs that other pillows albums have. It has some good songs, but I can't name any great ones. I Know You and Terminal Heavens Rock come closest, but compare these songs to good songs off other albums, such as One Life and Hybrid Rainbow on Little Busters, and Last Dinosaur and Funny Bunny on Happy Bivouac.
The quality of songs on other albums dwarfs that of songs on Penalty Life.

penalty life stinks lol.
but seriously. Penalty Life isn't the horrible. I give it a listen every once in a while i.e. last time was 4 months ago. It has a few good tracks, but like good dreams, sounds like no effort was put into the making of this cd. My frined who isn't crazy about the pillows noted the same thing. Not that Sawao doesn't have energy in his songs, but that's the only thing that keeps a lot of the songs going.

Penalty Life is a good album... it's just that a few parts seem a little over produced to me. But it doesn't seem like Sawao rushed this at all! In fact, a lot of it seems more complex and maybe even over-thought. There is a reason this record is getting a release in America. It is a more commercial type album. I like them sounding a bit rougher and more aggressive but there are some really great moments here. It just goes to show you, people have very different tastes. Mole Town Prisoner is one of my favorite songs on the album for sure. It also seems more like a song of their previous albums than any other song on the album. But something that no one ever seems to mention is "The Sun That Will Not Rise". That is a fantastic song.

i'm not talking about production, i'm talking about sawao's songwriting. I don;t know why people keep picking a fight.

I agree that it isn't thier best album but it's still good. Definitely not worthy of all the bashing it gets, and if you don't like it, don't listen to it. It really couldn't be simpler.
