I'm part of the 1 percent, if that's a reliable statistic(it's probably a bit less than 99.....
I read about them and ordered Runner's High, and was hooked forever. No Self Control is the song that made me buy more albums. Deffinate fave off of RH.

I think they realize that at least a few fans here are beyond the FLCL animu stereotype.
I saw them during both of their US tours; first time in Austin at SWSX, second time in LA at the Whisky (and then the next night in SF). The first time, I was fortunate enough to get them to sign my copy of PML, and they reacted favorably to seeing it (with Manabe going like "Ooh, Lostman" and smiling <3). Most recently in LA, I brought Living Field (so did thejedipunk, by sheer coincidence). This garnered a more surprised reaction - Sawao and Manabe were both quite interested in the fact that we had the album. They each separately said something like "Wow, this is very old album. Where did you get it?" and we just said "Japan"; my first instinct was to say "the internet" but that would have been a dumb thing to say, probably, and thejedipunk covered for me. We also qualified Sawao's "old album" statement by telling him how great we thought it was and how much we liked it, so that had to leave a good impression, I think.
At each concert, I called out song requests for classic songs, but they unfortunately didn't oblige (in their defense, there are few pre-LB songs they would realistically be prepared to play, especially considering Suzuki-san wouldn't really know wtf to do if they broke out THE KILLING FIELD or something; though I think they did play Swanky Street at some US show). However, knowing they'd played PROPOSE somewhere else, I called out "PROPOSE!" several times at the LA concert, and they ended up playing it, which was great (good song for sure).
Sadly, it's probably an accurate impression that the majority of US fans only know/care about the FLCL stuff, but I sure hope they (and the ROSS asshole - which I bore personal witness to) don't ruin it for the rest of us. I intend to get one album signed per concert (any more than that and you're just being an asshole), and I wanted to get Kool Spice signed at the SF show last year but they didn't allow fans to meet with the band that night (probably thanks to ROSS-boy). They'd better freaking come back. :*(
I dunno, from what i gathered last dinosaur's interpretation
Again, Last Dinosaur doesn't know anything about Japenese. He picked out the words "Kyu ju kyu PACENTO", meaning 99%. The rest he just BS'd.
Mare may do a little bit more translating later.

Just to wanted to drop by and see how things were doing, despite being an occasionalllurker for the most of instant music's history
You got to hand it to FLCL though, which ultimately allowed them to tour in the US
I think the whole 'WE ARE PILLOWS OKAY?!' yell
may be a subliminal or simple engrish message indicating that they ARE the pillows and NOT FLCL for the matter XD
I've went to the last whiskey a go go live
felt like I was an alien, despite being an "otaku" myself
(on a side note: I know otaku is a common term to refer to anime obsessed people, but allow me to explain that otaku IS NOT LIMITED TO ANIME HOBBIES, BUT HOBBIES IN GENERAL)
and yes, if japanese people were to converse and you were talking about the pillows all the time, then you will probably be labeled a pirouzu otaku XD
and its really a issue of whether you will stand and be determined for your way of life, no matter how lonely you may be ;_; ;_;
ranting done, anyway, being side-tracked that I am.... >_>
I have to say that I'm proud that I at least shouted 'SWANKY STREET' to the best of my ability without sounding disrespectful or whatnot

Hahaha. It's got the format, but lacks the substance.

I found these passages to be pretty relevant.

I didn't mean you lacked substance, I meant your substance differed considerably from Sclone's.

well, I got what you meant, its just the reply piqued my interest
sorry if the reply was vague
....I feel like an old man now, looking at this thread ;_; and I'm barely closing in 21!
keeping on topic, personally, Scarecrow revived my interest of the pillows, and I'm rather curious in what he has to say in the interview
about the song itself

I found that essence rare.
