I bought about 11 DS games in Japan.
Uh...which ones? Far as I know, the DS has been suffering from a dearth of worthwhile games for the last 5 months. Or maybe 6. I'm excluding Pokemon.
Serious, it needs to step its game up.
*This post comes from a DS owner.

Nice, collection, Kurisu! Should I start some sort of collection thread in the Living Field so this thread doesn't get lock'd?

Yeah, I'll remove that and post it in Living Field so this doesn't get off topic.

To me, the recent style hasn't been so much high energy and uplifting, (barring the more fun songs) as it has been more of a kind of sad recollection, with this feeling of pushing through it, making the most of what's left. Maybe that's where there's a mixed feeling of the new music, that it's on a different emotional wavelength than we're used to. Maybe some just don't like it. I did like it, and I appreciate that they would go in this direction.
We've heard a lot of different styles, but we haven't really gotten much of this kind of sense of acceptance through quiet recollection, save Ice Pick, or Hibi no Uta, etc., as opposed to always a song about a cool girl or trying to mold the world to a slogan. Past albums like PML and LB come close to the sound, but they have a certain boldness and trailblazing sense of themselves, whilst WU3 has that recollection of youthful boldness, a kind of, "Remember when? We can still do that." feel to it.
Ladybird Girl and And Hello! don't really sound like love songs, at least not for us. But possibly the mindframe and the stage of life that they are set to aren't familiar to us. Of course, I don't know the lyrics, but regardless, it's the music that is under the microscope. Maybe the distortion and drive of previous albums worked so well because of the youthful messages they were conveying. I think the more tightly wrapped sound and somber deliveries best convey the message of their newest work. I'd like to see them elaborate further on this.

Fool on the Planet is ANYTHING but some sort of quiet acceptance of anything, it's a song saying he'll give up anything but her, and he'll never stop believing in himself.

Do you really think it's about a girl?
But yeah, Fool on the planet is anything but a song about quiety accepting one's plight. I see it more as quiet rebelion really. Someone saying that/this sucks and umm.. then switched to some funky twisted sister "we're not gonna take it" stuff, only indirectly... Kinda like almost everything he writes... o_o I SEE A PATTERN HERE.
OH YEAH, good news Mare. I won that book. But I'm probably moving soon, like before I get he book, so don't expect scans anytime soon... I'M SORRY (everyone) I KNOW I SUCK. But moving out of here is more important at the moment.

VERY NICE. That book is made of Hidetoshi and awesome pics.
Well, I would ASSUME the song's about a girl, since Sawao seems pretty darn straight unless he's getting some side action with Jun. His super crush on Kim Deal is one point of evidence, all his love songs that mention any specific person/use a pronoun talk about a girl, so I'd say yeah, it's about a girl.

I dunno, the way most of the translations read, the "lovesongs" or whatever, kind of read like metaphors. BUT that could be the point. Like maybe he's not talking about a girl specifically, (girlfriend being the excpetion), but instead using a girl as a metaphor for whatever. I know the dude is straight, or as straight as any person can get... But if he was getting side action I don't think it would be from Jun. He's married afterall. I think it would be Jiro or Manabe.
BUT Fool on the planet is one of those songs that doesn't feel like there's a girl involved at all. BUT I haven't tried translating it myself so I dunno, it could be (and if it is please tell me) worked way different in Japanese and I could be way fucking wrong.
Man, I need to fucking move and shit already because I have like 9 magazines articals that I need to scan and put up. I feel like an asshole because I've been hoarding this shit for like ever. Not to mention all the extra stuff I have that I've been meaning to sell, but can't find atm...

"Just like now
I want to convey my love
More deeply than anyone else
My song is your song"
Japanese is a much more indirect langauge than English, so it's not surprising that he doesn't specifically say "my girl" or "girlfriend" or whatever in most songs. Sure his lovesongs have a lot of metaphors in them, but he directly talks about love and frequently about a girl.
