They all sound like lesser versions of songs from the "holy trinity."
See, I don't get that. Why is there so much emphasis put on comparing everything they do to those damn albums? I've already stated my disliking of RH, and Happy Bivouac, while solid, I don't really find myself listening too all that often. Little Busters, of course, is pretty much completely awesome. That makes it, for me... A Holy Unity.
It's not the top of the mountain. There is no mountain. If there was a mountain, and "The Holy Trinity" was the top, what would that make PML, LF, WI, and Smile? Nobody is gonna tell me those are lesser albums simply because they aren't part of "The Holy Trinity." I don't understand the reasoning behind making a chart graph of a bands career, much less a band that is still together making records.
I point out those albums because there are sincere references on both what little I've heard of Wake Up! as well as Good Dreams to the styles they already explored on those albums. The reason they're held up as paragons of quality here is because they act as an entry point to a lot of fans, due to their heavy presence in FLCL. I don't think they are - Little Busters is my favorite pillows album and Runners High is mostly great but Happy Bivouac has some downright listless moments. Regardless, recently there's been a sense of them repeating themselves, at least to my ears, and each time they do so the quality lessens.
Honestly, I listened to Penalty Life a few weeks back, and man, I really fucking like that record, especially compared to the new material. Every song on that album experiments with something new, and while not everything pans out, it's at least exciting.
Which brings me to my point: my qualms with the recent work stem from the fact that their sound HASN'T changed. I mean, there's nothing wrong with consistency but if you keep reproducing the same songs over and over ad infinitum, well, things get a little boring.

Enjoy your opinion. As in, it may be under the same general blanket of style, but they move around a lot in that range on each album. There's just as much variety of style on Good Dreams, My Foot, and probably on Wake up!x3 as there was on Penalty Life, Runners High, and Little Busters.
Sawao said that the new album's title was sort of like a wake up call to themselves.

well for one thing once you listen to most american rock and pop, you realize it usually has something to do with love. It gets quite repetative after a while so I find allot of other songs that arent blatantly about love to be refreshing, also it might just be me, but I find most American rock and pop to be depressing in its lyrics... im not sure but I like both j-rock and american so im not really complaining much...
anyways... back on topic...
XD I cant wait till thier new album is out, its thier 1st new album since the begining of last year! also I like the direction they are taking in thier music now, its turning twards some of thier older styles. and of course, The Pillows are constantly experimenting with thier music so expect a few bumps here and there.

Hahahaha. Don't say 'experiment'. APPARENTLY SOME PEOPLE on this board don't like that word being used to describe the pillows music.

Well, people definitely have it - there are already (as of yesterday actually) a few first impressions of it posted on the official site's board.

My guess is God only knows when (possibly never); Geneon never even released Good Dreams, and the pillows are on a different record label that probably has no deal with Geneon (thank God).
