Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
Show was good, here are some notes.
-pop chocolate>noodles live -guitarist for monokuro is what you would call "okama" -noodles live 2010>noodles live 2008 -jun was denied entry to the united states (visa issues) -manabe remembered me, I got the whole band to sign pantomime, and I got pictures with sawao and manabe holding pantomime -sawao laughed when he saw pantomime -moshers again, unfortunately. -lol swanky street tease

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
so pretty much flcl + ooparts + ladybird girl...? :X
And you were expecting anything that different? :P We knew what we'd be getting. Even if there weren't the other bands with them and the pillows played a bit longer... we would have just gotten one or two more ooparts songs, maybe a wake up x3 song or third eye or something, and maybe another golden-trio flcl song.
we BETTER get a different setlist in pamona... or AT LEAST full swanky street...
It might be slightly different, but I'd expect pretty much the same. And you're definitely not getting Swanky Street. Someone (was it one of us? I failed and didn't get to meeting up with the other IMers) threw a shirt to Sawao on stage saying 'I came all the way from New York to see you. Please play Swanky Street'. But Sawao said there was a problem, since the bassist (Monokuro's, who was filling in for Jun) didn't know how to play it. So Sawao just teased the guitar intro and started softly singing the first verse before playing Carnival.
-noodles live 2010>noodles live 2008
This was the first time I've seen Noodles live... And I was pretty impressed. Mostly because my expectations were kinda low since I've been pretty meh on the band ever since Junko left. But it definitely sounded like Yoko's guitar work has improved a lot (Obviously, she's still no Junko though).
I got the whole band to sign pantomime, and I got pictures with sawao and manabe holding pantomime
Haha, awesome. I have a copy that I was considering bringing, but wasn't feeling all that great so didn't stick around long after the show ended.

You know it has always been my dream for Manabe to fondly fondle me. The jealousy; the betrayal.
Maybe if...I could...and then...it'd be kind of like...by proxy...through her...to me? I guess I could settle for that.

I mentioned it... albeit tucked away when responding to a dozen quoted sections :P Monokuro's bassist stood in for Jun.

Is Jun skipping out on the entire tour, or was it just that one show?

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
lol thinline's doing great at reading thread's lately. XD Pomona show was pretty great. Pop Chocolate was a very pleasant surprise, with some really fantastic harmonies and good basswork. Monokuro rocked really hard, I loved their showmanship as well as their music. Noodles has definitely gotten better, but if you don't have a backing guitar, don't do such boring-ass solos, Yoko. Seriously. Best song of theirs by far was Tsumannai, which had the only decent solo of anything Yoko played. Still, they did a much tighter show than last time around for sure, those two years have certainly been good to them. All of the openers got slightly longer (2 or 3 songs?) sets than the SF show, or so I hear (other than Noodles, they did the same 8, so maybe they all did the same length after all?), but the pillows played the exact same set, including having the song above carnival crossed off with tape (they probably originally wanted the guest bassist to learn 14 songs - 12 for the main set and 2 encore songs - but he must not have had enough time with the short notice due to the visa problems). The pillows rocked really really hard as usual. Gotta give a shout-out to TJWX5 and his two friends for helping with crowd control; it made the concert a lot more enjoyable, even though by the end of things I was dealing with a very sore back and problems getting enough air from heat/pressure/possibly the mild asthma I've been told I have (started to feel like I was going to throw up towards the end of the show, barely made it out of the venue after the encores to a trash can to put out a tiny bit of bile, a few dry heaves, and then feel better from the fresh air ). I think we may have seen Metal, or at least I saw a dude who looked very much like the picture of Metal I've seen, who was being mad dickish about trying to push his way into the front row, and got threatened twice by security that they'd kick his ass out if he didn't knock it the fuck off (I hope it was him; it would fit so well with his social character lolol). Despite being turned sideways trying to jam his arm in between two of the people at the front, when the security guy yelled at him, his reply was "IT MAY LOOK LIKE I'M PUSHING, BUT IT'S THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME." Maybe it was metal, maybe it wasn't. Whoever it was, he was a huge douche, and it was lulzy seeing security yell at him. TJWX5 AND one of his friends both got Manabe picks. My gf got the first four songs on her camera and some awesome pictures. Overall? An awesome night. Like every time I get to see the pillows, lol. EDIT: Oh yeah, and we also tried to start up a chant for Swanky Street during the first break between songs, but only myself, TJWX5, his two friends, a random dude towards the middle, and a guy way over on the bassist side (who turned out to be H2orowe, niiiiiice) joined in that I know of. Sawao laughed a bit at that, but I don't remember what he said to us. DOUBLE EDIT: h2o says Metal told him he wasn't there. Metal, if you are reading this, your twin in spirit was there for you, trolling IM irl in your stead.

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
Damn it, Mare, I didn't see you.
I really liked Pop Chocolate and the Noodles. I thought Monokuro was fun, but it kind of felt like they were trying too hard to be Nirvana.
The pillows were fuckinga akshdgkhdszgdshg amazing. Only thing that brought it down were the FLCL fans who seem to think that the pillows are an anime band and don't have music that exists outside of the fucking television show. "Let's chant furi kuri furi kura"; NAAAAAH. Oh well, I'd rather them have played FLCL stuff than nothing but new stuff I didn't know, especially since this was my first time seeing them. So amzrarzrzrzing.

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
Mare I might have seen you in line. you were wearing the She is Perfect shirt? I didn't want to awkwardly draw attention by randomly talking to people.. XD I was the one wearing the skull thing shirt in front of you. =]
Pomona show was eh... the setlist was exactly the same minus the swanky street tease. =[ we didn't even get that much..
Been to the glasshouse many times before but it's never been so crowded. It really was hard to breathe. I wouldnt be surprised if the venue overfilled their capacity limit like Whisky a GoGo did that one year.
Most people were really enjoying the show and thats just one of the reasons pillows shows rock, but unfortunately I got stuck in front of some snobby freshmen (they mentioned dorms). One girl told me my hair was annoying her and to move up. uhh. what? and this was only during pop chocolat's set.
I'm glad for the people yelling those random interjections, too. The show could have been so strictly rehearsed that it wouldve been boring in between songs.. I know Sawao's talks are practiced, but it wasnt as obvious as the people reading off notecards and scratch paper..
Noodles were great, but they did a pretty short set. . and they didn't play "she, her" =[ i was waiting all night to show my boyfriend a song that would blow his mind. but ohwell..
a secret LA show would make up for this. a hundred-fold. goodnite~
