I've never paid attention to any possible discussion about it, but is the mixing on the Special CD version far superior or is my rip of Living Field horrible? On that note, though, I have been listening to Living Field a lot lately; I think its muscled (or perhaps more appropriately in its case, very elegantly grooved) its way into my top 5 albums.

I find the mixing on the album version vastly superior. Plus the LF version has waaaaaaaay more going on, with extra guitars, percussion and keyboard recorded in. So you might have a bad rip.
The Special CD version is great too, but it's just a less dense mix overall since it's only got light synth, two guitars, bass, drums and vocals.

Hmm, checked a different rip and it does improve the situation. I had been a fan of the extra percussion and other things added to the LF version; though I still do like the extra fidelity/emphasis toward the bass and lead guitar on the Special CD version, whereas they feel toned down a bit on LF to better mix with everything else added.

Ugh the Angel Fish on the Special CD was really like a single. Nice arrangement, but lacks soul. The album version was indeed miles better.
