Swanky Street, Please Mr. Lostman, and Strange Chameleon are nice, but I'd prefer hearing My Foot, Lemon Drops, and Tabasco Disco instead. Much more fun and upbeat.
Am I getting trolled? Is there a huge inside joke I missed while I was gone these last few years?

Yea, forget Tabasco Disco. And if the pillows are so intent on playing FLCL stuff, then why not get some of the lesser played songs out there like Patricia and Happy Bivouac? (at least Instant Music is back in rotation) Or even play something from those eras. They just played Backseat Dog only two weeks ago. Someone should shout that out at the shows. And the bass line is easy; for Pete's sake it's the same bassline as Here Comes Your Man, and even I can play that and I suck at bass/guitar. No excuse IMO.

Re: New US Pillows Tour. (Seattle date confirmed)
There's a reason why they only play certain "FLCL-era" songs. Because they're FLCL songs. It's not like they randomly always play Hybrid Rainbow, One Life, Little Busters, and Blues Drive Monster, and not other songs from Little Busters.
They play: 1. Songs featured in FLCL 2. Songs from their most recent album, and maybe 1-2 from the one prior.
Rookie Jet is their first deviation from this formula; granted it's a short song that they've already played 1-2 times in North America.
I'd say the overal preference for IMers if the pillows were to expand their U.S. setlist-eligible pool in any direction would be to play what you're suggesting - since the albums you were effectively referring to (Little Busters, Runners High, Happy Bivouac) are (+ Please Mr. Lostman) probably generally considered their best by most.

I'm gonna be shouting out random songs like "biscuit hammer" and "Kanojo wa kyou" also "babylon tenshi no uta", scarecrow, third eye etc... XD It's worth a try...

Re: New US Pillows Tour. (Seattle date confirmed)
I guess, aside from anything off Please Mr. Lostman and the earlier albums, the other big omission I'm seeing is anything from Smile or Thank You, My Twilight, their last two really good albums. Just one song from each... Kono Yo No Hate Made and ROBOTMAN and I'll be fine.
Though I heard they played Kono Yo No Hate Made a few years back? Maybe they'll play it in Seattle.
edit: Oh right, they had Rookie Jet. Eh...

No, they've never played it here in the US, but that's another song they just played two weeks ago. I really wish Jun would've went along. Would've been a lot easier for an on the spot request like when they actually DID play Swanky Street in 2005.

I think you're all forgetting one thing: without Jun, the pillows aren't really at liberty to take requests, even if they want to. I'm sure Monokuro's bassist is great, and yeah, playing just the bare root notes would suffice... but who knows if he is even familiar enough with the music to play it on the spot like that. And if the pillows are willing to put him in that position.
I understand that calling out songs isn't going to hurt anything, though.

I can almost guarantee you that the Monokuro bassist has not practiced any other songs than what the band has planned for. So, basically the previous setlist posted. Maybe there's a little deviation, Runners High or Advice here or there...but shouting requests will do nothing other than 1) Make the Monokuro bassist (and rest of the band members) a little disappointed that they can't play ANY of the requests, no matter how easy, 2) Be equivalent to "HEY EVERYBODY! I KNOW A GOOD PORTION OF THE PILLOWS' DISCOGRAPHY!!" Not to shoot you down, but I don't think anyone's gonna be all "Aw man! This guy knows a good portion of the pillows' discography! What a cool dude!" The best thing we can do, in my opinion, is get hype about the songs they can play for us. Go nuts for Blues Drive Monster (why the fuck not, it's an awesome song) and bob along to Comic Sonic. I mean, right? I will eat my shoe and post a video in the GR thread if they play you Strange Chameleon - don't take that as a challenge though.

We take what we can get, right? I don't even like Advice that much but I'll definitely sing along.

I'd rather see them play the instrumental version of Advice if they're going to play it. The lyrical version doesn't do it for me as much as the instrumental one!

They didn't do the guitar work on that though. And I don't think Manabe can handle those solos.

Re: New US Pillows Tour. (Seattle date confirmed)
I did not know that...
Nevertheless, I believe he could handle it. There's not too too much extreme stuff, and there are some early songs with solos that rival that song in complexity.

Re: New US Pillows Tour. (Seattle date confirmed)
They're setlist was pretty much what I expected. I would've liked to hear some of my favorite non-FLCL songs, but hey, at least they're here playing for us. As bad as it sounds, I think a few of their FLCL-era songs should always be played. Some of my favorite songs are from that era, and that's what the majority of the audience recognizes. Like many of you here though, I was kind of hoping for Swanky Street among several others.
That aside, I had fun. This show was definitely rowdier than the last time they were in LA. It was a little tough to enjoy the actual show, but it's to be expected somewhat. I've been to rowdier shows (non-Pillows). There were definitely people in the crowd who were NOT expecting it to be rowdy though. I felt bad that several people had to go off to the side/out of the crowd because it was too crazy. Saw people crying, fists almost flying... Not a good sight.
I was the dude who got jumped on by the dude who jumped on the stage to hug Sawao... LOL. So you (could) say the hug was transferred to me. It was pretty crazy though... Everyone in front of me just dodged the guy and there I was thinking in that split second "sh*t... I have to try to catch this guy." I failed and we both fell, but hey it's cool. We're at the Pillows concert so why the ___ not?
I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Jun this time......... but oh well. I'll live.
I'm sorry if I'm a hater, but the Noodles were pretty blah this time around. All Ages were decent and I enjoyed their show. Feel free to argue against my opinion. It seemed like more people liked the Noodles more, but they just didn't do it for me.
