This thought occurred to me, too. Another possibility is that they are intentionally referencing American acts to appeal to fans here... it seems strange to mention Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Smash Mouth.

Yes, but notice how they chose well-known acts to reference. My point is that I think they were making a concious effort to name-drop American acts.

It makes me wonder what sort of japanese artists have influenced the pillows. It seems easy enough to guess with shin but I'm curious about who sawao and manabe listened to.

I'm guessing they listen to The Collectors, because they were on a Collectors tribute album. I have no idea beyond that though.
