I agree with all of these things. Seriously, just because somebody doesn't evolve styles like Radiohead doesn't mean they suddenly suck when you get bored with their style. Some people need to get over that shit.

Erm, well, historically I always liked the pillows because they were different. Even when they released similar-sounding albums in the past, there was still that special something that made them all stand out. If you want to categorize their recent shift into generic, spiritless, conventional music as a "style" change, rather than a quantifiable change in overall quality, then that's cool. For me though, it certainly has less to do with disliking a particular style and more with disliking the majority of every album they've released for the better part of a decade because it all sounds like plastic.

Of course, some people like plastic, and that's their right.

Trial is pretty cool. There are other songs on recent albums I enjoy as well. It's just that they haven't released an album in a long time that I can happily listen to from beginning to end. If you love OOPARTS and Horn Again and stuff, then all the more power to you.

Also, I don't like Radiohead.

Also, all fans of the pillows should listen to "The Bends" first things first when it comes to Radiohead.

Yeah, in the same vein that I appreciate old time delta blues, but at the same time am pretty much repulsed anytime I have to hear it for more than a few moments. It's one thing to appreciate music history, but it's another as far as what you enjoy within the history of music.

It's also way more fun to jam and improv on blues songs than it is to just listen to old recordings of them, in my opinion. Same goes with certain old recordings of jazz standards.

Not being bitter, but this could actually be a GREAT cover if it was just Sawao's face covered in darts. That would be kick-ass. As it is, it's pretty alright, but it's not quite spectacular.
