The guitar sound was fine. The chorus was so un-catchy that it hurt.

I'm very underwhelemd by THIS WORLD. To me, everything on Discharge is much better. I've never been much of a fan of this side project, but this song made me lose faith in them. The immediate intro sounds like something from a NUMBER GIRL track, and then it becomes a generic pop-punk tune.

You all should understand that what Sawao releases now is just a no effort pop song.

But I don't think you should say that Sawao's current trend is "no effort pop songs". Sure, the songs are getting more and "simplistic", but even Rodeo Star Mate and stuff on Discharge was WAYYYYYYY more inspired than "This World". This is The Predators we're talking about here, not the pillows... so you should already expect a reduction in quality. But still, I have to say, this is the worst Predators song I've heard. It's just so boring and uninteresting. I have to admit I've been growing farther and farther away from simplistic pop and rock, so songs like this are really just annoying as fuck to my ears.

I was hoping for a nice little solo and finisher to help lift this dead pop song. I guess we can't have it all.

The songs on Discharge are far from "no effort pop songs." I still have a ton of respect for him as a songwriter. I feel AVEX has more to do with the "no effort pop songs" than Sawao himself.

Because the music industry is the root of all evil, of course. Kurt Cobain felt so strongly about this he went the way of an hero. Or maybe it was the diacetylmorphine...

Re: The Predators - New mini-album - This World [8-24-2010]
I wouldn't say the music industry is the root of all evil, but It IS primarily concerned with selling music. And with every industry you have to be able to prove that your product will sell before you get endorsed by the people with deep pockets and there are only two ways to do this. A: have a large loyal fan base, B: play music that sells.
the reason music sucks these days is alot of artists opt for option B rather than committing to being underground while they build a fanbase with their unique sound. Option A is alot harder because even if you commit to being underground, people still want to hear music that sounds like music they know, it takes a long time for something new and fresh to catch on.

What musician signed to any label is NOT primarily concerned with selling music?

the better ones.
not saying good musicians aren't concerned with selling music, but it shouldn't be their primary concern.

It doesn't matter for shit why a band makes music, and there is no provable correlation between a band's intent and its ability to make good music.

of course there's no provable correlation in your concept of good music. Logistics are irrelevant because you cannot define good music enough to begin to draw parallels.
HOWEVER, under the assumption that you consider music that has persisted over generations to fall somewhere near the "good" category, I can name a few artists whom made music simply because music was all they knew and ended up creating something timeless. Simon & Garfunkel, Operation Ivy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hedrix. Also some artists that made music as a result of a desire for social change Rancid, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Minor Threat. Artists who wrote music as an outlet for their feelings, Nirvana, Green Day, Social Distortion. The list goes on and on, even Sawao repeats the theme of "all I do is play music" over and over in Discharge. I cant think of many bands that made music under the intent of becoming famous and ended up with classics... maybe Oasis and The Monkeys?
it boggles my mind how someone could take such a suffocatingly rational perspective on something so full of mysticism as the creation of music.
of course WHY we make music effects how good our music is. if your intention is to make money and get laid making music why attempt to make something original or challenging? If you look around a little bit you can find the sounds of the times that are getting people laid and making them money. It seems pretty stupid that if ass and cash were my goals that I wouldn't waste my time trying to be original and just go with what works. There are plenty of bands out there making good money and getting ass for playing run-of-the-mill sensitive boy rock if you haven't noticed. If you haven't I suggest you go out more.
of course it's always easier to go the "oh I put a stick in this drawer and closed it, therefore I cant prove that there's a stick in the drawer." route.
