Even if it’s an illusion that bursts with the sound of a snap The palm of my hand is still warm
I kinda felt like he meant that even though the illusion or experience was never real he learned a lesseon from it or still managed to get something out of it. Like whatever happened left an impression on him whether it was real or not. I really can't explain it.
It's something like; If you found out that glass of milk wasn't real milk, just soy milk, would you completely ignore and shun the fact that you drank a glass of soy milk? Or will you learn from that mistake and be like "Ok, next time, I'm making sure I buy real milk" That verse tells us to learn from our mistakes, I think

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
If everything is a lie that’s made to look okay And the cat that I tamed was just hungry for food Even if it’s an illusion that bursts with the sound of a snap The palm of my hand is still warm
But this one verse seems to break the cohesiveness. The message I get is this: Parts of your life experiences might not truly be as meaningful or real as you thought they were. Sometimes happiness can just be an illusion. However, it's OK, I still cherish the memories despite that.
Ok, by now I think I've thought of a way to summarize it simply: In the song Strange Chameleon, Sawao expresses his acceptance of frontin' as a valuable part of one's life experience.
That's why I can't fully, thoroughly love Strange Chameleon. I think. Sometimes the illusion sucks. Pretending to have the real thing (whether it be love, a life changing experience, attainment of one's life goals) does NOT equal the satisfaction of knowing it's all real. It seems like Sawao is almost content living in a world of lies. Maybe he just realizes he is, and accepts that. But still, that verse doesn't sit well with me.
Did you guys interpret it differently? I think it's pretty clear. But I'd like to hear your thoughts. Sometimes it's easy to hear a song (especially in a language you don't understand) and claim "YES THIS SONG IS ENTIRELY HOLY". But then you critically think about the lyrics. And maybe the illusion bursts.
I don't think it breaks the cohesiveness at all. I think when Sawao says
"If everything is a lie that’s made to look okay And the cat that I tamed was just hungry for food Even if it’s an illusion that bursts with the sound of a snap The palm of my hand is still warm"
He is saying that if the world is made to look okay, but is really just unfair, and the friend he made didn't really care about him, but just stuck with him because they needed something from him. Even if everything is just an illusion he still knows his palm is warm, and he's himself and not a fake.
It's not so much being about being okay with the fact that everything is unfair and fake, it's that even if he can't reach what others can, and will never blend in with anyone, he's okay with the fact that at least he knows he's himself. Like the line
"The page of us telling of our times together was ripped off We’re going to be another fossil, worthless to history I’m glad that I met you"
He's saying that even if he's never understood, and that the time he spent being happy but lied to probably won't matter to anyone else, he'll remember the good times when he thought he finally fit in despite that.
I don't really like analyzing songs that mean this much to me because I think it takes away from the ambiguity and I believe it should be interpreted any way one wants. Anyways I love Strange Chameleon, because it's exactly how I feel.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
songs I've gotten bleary eyed during
-Hybrid Rainbow -Scarecrow -Shiroi Natsu
those are the only ones that come to mind. It is usually based on context. Shiroi natsu after a breakup that had alot in common with the song title. Scarecrow while feeling lonely moving to a new city. Hybrid Rainbow, well any time I get really really depressed.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
i've been really close to crying with :
Xavier thank you my twilight moon marguerite my girl
other emotional songs like hybrid rainbow, scarecrow, ladybirdgirl etc .have something else, that makes the opposite...in someway they make feel better.
the only time i've cried while listening to music was with ,Sparta Locals- CHOCO.
it was early, mother's day, and Kousei's whines and Itou's back chorus "cholate" were more than enough to make me shed a couple of tears
First of all, reading a ruliann translation is kind of like trying to guess a person's adult appearance by their first grade year book photo. Has anyone translated it to real English yet? No offense to that person, as it was invaluable having those translations for so long, but I think it's about time for some Marevamping.
I've been meaning to do so eventually, but there's been a lot of as-yet-untranslated stuff that I've been doing when I occasionally translate stuff. I think it's about damn time for a whole fucking PML retranslation though, I'll get on that when I get back to campus and find the time.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
not sure, but the song Good Dreams might have already brought tears to my eyes. I remember when i heard it the first... 7 times. i always listened to it with my eyes tightly closed and with my head down. man, how i (still) love this song!
also, in 916 special dvd, i've already got shivered like three consecutive times when watching it, right in the beginning, when that intro they made to PML ends and manabe plays the first holy chord that gives room to the rest of the perfectness.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
The first time I saw them live, I teared up a bit. Also when listening to One life, like really listening, it makes me tear up. But I haven't really outright sobbed or anything like that.

That was the best introduction I have ever seen to any live in my life ever...

The "THANK YOU BUSTERS!" Sawao yells during the last chords of RUNNERS HIGH at the end is far from making me cry, but I surely get a little emotional with it. Oh, and you're welcome, Sawao.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
Strange Chameleon made Mare cry one time when this girl called him and said she wasn't interested. True story. Fortunately I think he got over that a long time ago. I don't recall every crying because of a pillows song, but i suppose it's possible I've happened to be crying while listening to them. Clearly it wasn't something significant enough for me to actually remember.
