Too bad they occasionally do. Japanese MTV is just as crappy, I'd wager.
Yeah, isn't this one of the first times the pillows have had a PV airing on MTV? Anyways, at least the MTV in Japan still airs music videos. The MTV here in the states shows Reality TV Shows and/or America's Top Model all day.

Does it sound to anybody else like Manabe's doing the backup vocals on the chorus? That doesn't sound at all like Sawao's vocal tone.

They had an appearance for Go! Go! Jupiter, I believe. Other than that, I don't know.
I really like this song. The opening is fantastic, it's got a good beat, and I like the how the drums sound throughout the song. I don't know yet if I'm going to pre-order this though, I'm in a bit of a money situation.

go to 1:26 on the video, during the verse with the higher vocals. It sounds to me like Sawao's vocals are getting worse. Now I expect to get flamed for this, but when you compare the vocals here to anything post-Kool Spice...New Animal is probably gonna be not as hot. Premonition: Mare's gonna argue that the warbly nature of his voice is stylistic and fits the emotion of their sound perfectly...but come on. Is this really as good as anything on Little Busters to Happy Bivouac, most tracks on Penalty Life, Smile, TYMT, Good Dreams or My Foot?
Maybe that's just a fault of aging, but I'm really wanting some more vocal stability out of Sawao recently.
The thing I'm talking about, but exaggerated: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XSEsR2vebfs&feature=related
too shouty, not enough singy. Well, I'm crossing my fingers for Mr. Droopy. Someone was saying they were listening to all of finger post of magic...how?where?

It's rather high up in HIS range, and he has a decent range. Look at the other songs, they don't sound like that. On top of that, he's 39. Of course his voice is going to be different than it used to be. Frankly, as long as he hits the notes cleanly most of the time and the studio recording sounds good, I'll be happy.
By the way, singing live is a lot harder than singing normally. You're moving around, not getting as much air, etc. Your singing quality will go down unless you're boring and just stand there (or are Freddie Mercury).

Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. I've been listening and his voice doesn't sound much different to me. His lives have always been kinda' strange in terms of vocals. Also, I think New Animal is kinda' low when it first starts out... Sawao seems to sound pitchy when he sings in a lower register (have you seen the live of Century Creepers on Wake Up! Stand Up! Go!'?). Overall, I can say that Sawao's vocals definately aren't as good as they were in the 90s/early 2000s, but that they've been pretty consistent since My Foot (at least in his lives).
Anyways, I don't know how concerned Sawao is with his vocals. I don't know if he has a lot of voice training or not, and I don't know how he would sound if he just sat down and played an acoustic for us all in the dining room. He seems to have trouble maintaining stability in his lives when it comes to projecting his voice; that's one thing I've noticed about Sawao for a while.
Still, it's all good. I think this song is awesome. I'm digging deep with New Animal, I really like the B-natural that flying around in there. It makes this animal really seem "new".

I think New Animal is great for post-TYMT pillows, but it doesn't stack up to the late 90's stuff at all.
Imo, naturally.
It's a good, catchy song.

Hehe, which I've come to accept.
I don't even compare their newer songs to older ones now, because those were two different time sets all together. the pillows were making awesome and creative music back then, but weren't SUPERSTARS, and now they're doing a lot better than back then, but not creating the same sound that made us all love them back then; I've gotten used to that idea.
I just want to see what they're going to do. I mean, with New Animal, you have to be excited for Pied Piper.

Well, is it really appropriate to compare Pantomime, Kool Spice, and Living Field with PML up 'til Good Dreams?

Nope. Not to me.
Their style now ain't really all that oriented to RH and HB, it's just not what the pillows sound like anymore, and frankly, they're still putting out really good music. I don't think you should compare New Animal to any song on Happy Bivouac, you'll just loose enjoyment if you're wanting them to sound like they did ten years ago.
Besides, PML, LB, RH, HB. You got all the grunge and alternative you need right there, folks.

I went to the part that you listed there, and he sounds more or less the same. In fact, I would say that he sounded worse in Century Creepers. Don't get me wrong, that's a fantastic song, but the breaky-ness of his voice took some getting used to for me. I think that nowadays his best vocals are on the slow songs like So Long, Universe or the Tsuyogari cover from Scarecrow.

the pillows would suck if Sawao wasn't on vocals.

Actually, listen to Fragments, Jun could probably be a more consistent vocalist than Sawao, lol.
