MyFoot, it sounds like you're doing some pretty cool stuff. I could use some Theory in my belt. Just a practical question here though, have you found your knowledge of music theory thus far to be of any help when/if you're trying to write songs or I dunno...better...uh...IS IT WORTH IT?

BASIC theory knowledge, which you can get from a semester or two of music theory class, can be helpful for writing music. Other than that, you don't really need much other than your ear and some inspiration.

I'd say yes. I mean, there is a whole other class called composition, but Theory is a pre-requisite, that's why I'm taking it. Also, cause I wanted to learn my theory. I just find things a lot easier in an organized lesson/class than self learning.

In short, yes, I'd say it's helped with my composition and guitar playing as a whole. Sax playing too, but I don't take that as serious, I only play it for school.

I took a "theory through composition" class last year for two semesters, and while I don't use most of the stuff I learned, it definitely helped my songwriting.
