an artist doesnt create music solely to cater to fans (if that were the case, we would still be listening to jazzy pillows), but rather to connect with the audience. its the idea of sharing an experience that is going on in the artists head.

the pillows are in no way obliged to make music for us. its for them and they are sharing with us.

Who says the pillows are artists? I think of them more as businessmen now.

That's a little presumptive. Some artists make works solely for their own self-expression. Some artists make works solely for economic profit. Some artists make works solely for the fame and popularity. Some artists make works for the reasons you ascribe, and most artists make works for some combination of the above.

If the pillows want their fans to continue to admire them and support them financially, then they absolutely have an obligation to make music for us. If they couldn't care less who listens to them, or they already have all the money they want in life (at least from music), then they don't.

It is what it is, and nothing more. Some people have a habit of putting "art" on a pedestal, and they are idiots.

Also, the idea that all artists change their sound because they are "tired of their old sound" is stupid, people just write different music at different points in their life if they're actually growing as a person at all.
