Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
I saw that performance and the excitement stayed with me for an entire week. For a whole week I was on air and when I listen to that song on my Ipod I just jump on the person closest to me.
In that performance he DID NOT want to leave the stage haha.

Anyways, have fun at the pillows show Andrew. We should in Nippon someday!
Thanks! That would be awesome!
The other thing is that they produce a lot of music (plus their solo stuff), and they are tour A LOT! I just don't think they have to time to put together a bunch of mindblowing songs (though I'm sure they are very capable) and have them down perfectly so they don't screw them up live.
I don't know if you guys saw the Horn Again Tour DVD, but at the end where Sawao sings No Surrender. He put's his guitar down, jumps into the crowd, and rolls around on stage after the song...That's what it's all about for him right now. The Pillows are doing what they love. They've been around for over 20 years. Time to let them have some fun. Maybe they'll settle down in a few years...but if you had the means, wouldn't you rather travel around and play live shows instead of being stuck in a recording studio all the time stressing yourself out by trying to write some masterpiece? Maybe this is like their mid-life crisis or something, and they just want to mess around for a while. haha That's ok. I still love a lot of their new songs. Not all of them are gold, but on each of their new albums, there are at least a few that are AWESOME, and that's good enough for me. And I'm glad that they are having a good time.
That's a good way to look at it. I'm not in the mindset that the quality has totally suffered, there are still a lot of solid tracks. But they are getting old, and instead of following the cliche old-man band and fizzle out, it's great that they still put out rocking stuff and kick ass on stage, just as guys half they're age do.

Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
The odd thing to me is how Sawao's voice has changed over the years. I remember watching concert videos years back and hearing the worbling thing and just generally not as "good" sounding as he used to. Now, when I saw them in Austin and especially on the Born Again DVD, he sound fucking perfect all around. I thought I saw talk about how, back in the PML days and whatnot, Sawao was straining himself while singing? Maybe he finally worked through the damage caused by that and is singing properly. Something.

Yeah I can't believe how much Sawao's voice has changed. I've never heard a band's lead change so drastically over the years. He sounds good on Trial, but for some reason I really love his voice best on Horn Again. He has definitely tamed his voice. I do miss some of the old days though. His crazy voice really complimented some of the songs.

Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
I think overall he sounds best today. He still does weird things when he sings live, but on the Horn Again DVD, their were some really good pipes hear and there. I specifically enjoyed the opening with Limp Tomorrow, vocally. But the whole thing was great. Sure, back in the day he had his awesome voice that most of us identify with, (mid to late 90s voice), but if you watch the lives to go with that, it can get... strange. I dunno, he's always been able to do a great job when it counts though.
Anyways, yeah. I used to be super annoyed by my perceived "drop in quality" of pillows music, but I got over that a long time ago. The fact of the matter is they've been together over 20 years and still produce music that makes me excited. A feat no other band has accomplished for me. And that's why they're my favorite.

Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
I always bitch about the albums when they first come out, about how they're too this or not enough this or that or this. It takes me about a year or 2 but I get around to them. Trial I liked from the get go, so that was refreshing. Been blasting TRIAL and no nai gitaa this week. I like the whole album but I would like it more if the rest of the songs had translations.
All of them but Energia, TRIAL, and no nai gitaa
Considering Revival, Minority Whisper and Ready Steady Go are in English, that doesn't leave many more.

Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
Unless they are somewhere in this forum then I still haven't seen translations for Rescue, Flashback Story, and Polaris. Thank for you for the link

Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
I kind of wish I knew Japanese so I could translate stuff. So much of their older stuff still needs it. I really want This Is My Fashion and Hello Girl done!
As for newer stuff, Johnny Strobe and Good-Bye Present would be awesome.
