It's hard to tell, however, if sometimes people are actually being subjective, or are just fellating their favorite artists.
This right here is the problem with the general attitude about musical opinions. You personally can't understand why someone likes something to the extent that they do, so you assume that they must simply be shutting down their tastes in order to falsely enjoy something. If you think you're consistent in your taste, and think musical taste is subjective, why do you keep saying shit like "There is no question, I hope, in most pillows fan's mind, that Horn Again and Ooparts are not quality pillows tracks."?
Grow up, already, duders. You're most of the way there, the next step is realizing and accepting that while sometimes you won't understand the tastes of others, that doesn't mean they're being crazy somehow or that you can still argue about what is objectively better or whatever.

Yea, in the end, while some may prefer one 'movement' to another, we're all fans of the pillows.
That being said, one thing I never figured out was what caused the shift from the second movement to the third movement?
Another question, what is the current census on the 'Smile' album. To me, this album feels like the black sheep of the pillows discography. Though the album had great tracks on it (good morning good news, waiting at the bus stop, thunder whales picnic, monster C.C., vain dog), it's always the last one to pop into my head when I think of the pillows' discography

Re: [2014.10.22] Moondust (New album!)
That was pretty much tongue in cheek, but if I'm being honest... I love music. I'm all about taste being subjective and if people like Horn Again and Ooparts, well, you're wrong (sorry, tongue in cheek again, can't help myself!), but that's fine. It's hard to tell, however, if sometimes people are actually being subjective, or are just fellating their favorite artists. There is no question, I hope, in most pillows fan's mind, that Horn Again and Ooparts are not quality pillows tracks. There are some fine songs on there. Some are very catchy, some musically good. But for the band that gave me masterpieces such as Strange Chameleon, Hybrid Rainbow, Thank You My Twilight, even barring all of the god-tier music from their early days (cause they're officially over their jazzy phase, and there's no hope of songs on that level anymore as opposed to some other greats which they are completely capable of still releasing). For that band, to give me songs like what's on HA/OO, hell even the best tracks on these albums...they don't hold a candle to the classic pillows tracks. There are good songs for sure, but they are not great albums for the band 'the pillows'. It's a shame really. Seeing the Do You Remember blu-ray reminded me that these old dudes can still rock the fuck out. They are entirely capable of creating and releasing great music. It could be (and probably is) entirely the fault of Avex tracks. But that doesn't change the fact..."opinion"...that it is not good.
Well, I would argue that Horn Again is pretty obviously the same band that gave me Over Amp and Rain Brain. Did we stop liking those at some point? If I were only looking to fellate a favorite band, I would have been on here in 2008/2009 telling you all that Pied Piper and Ooparts were the best things ever. One listen of Pied Piper and the phoned-in Rock Stock remakes completely killed my enthusiasm for this band for about 5 years. I came back for Moondust due to morbid curiosity, gave it a chance, and found a lot of surprisingly great new pillows music released since then. It's managed to get me away from listening to Robert Pollard sideprojects 24/7 for a few weeks at least, so yes, I'm genuine. Ooparts has a couple of really shit songs though. I'm not denying that. Smile for me is the album that I don't always think of immediately, but every goddamn time I put on Good morning Good news, it's like "well, I'm listening to all of Smile today, now." The variety of production and songwriting on that album is killer, and it has some intensely emotional tracks.
The first time I played Moondust, I was a little reminded of GMGN just by the energy of Clean Slate Revolution. The songs aren't similar at all, but both are great energizing openers.

smile is one of my favorite albums. there are really no bad songs on it to be honest. it's great, but maybe an acquired taste.
the second>third movement was mainly caused by the failure of tiny boat.

Woke up with Clean Slate Revolution in my head, so I've been listening to the album on loop this morning. I like it

Re: [2014.10.22] Moondust (New album!)
So for me...
My favorite from the album is definitely "Anemone," followed closely behind by "About a rock n roll band." Even though the "Anemone" chorus lyrics are pretty straightforward and almost too simple, the way Sawao sings it really hits me. "About a rock n roll band" is so energetic I couldn't resist. It's also nice to hear an upbeat song referring to themselves as a band after all the down-tempo ones like "1989," "Quarter bakugyaku no tomo," and such. NOT that I have a problem with any of those songs. I'm just saying this is refreshing.
The other songs I thought were good were "Clean slate," "happy birthday," "song for you," "message," and "ideal affection." "Ideal affection" I felt was really meh at first, but after another listen it got kinda catchy. I realized that this would probably be really awesome and fun live.
And the songs that I thought were alright but I'll probably skip through are "break a time machine," "tokai no alice," "prairie rider," and "moondust."
