But I haven't forgotten about it and it will happen, just might take a bit longer...
I'll try and take a stab at it this weekend, I can probably finish the last few chapters in one sitting if I really put my mind to it
Hey Zorahk, did you ever finish the translation? I watched the youtube upload with the subs that you worked on and it was unfinished. I was hoping you did finish it and have yet to post it on IM. Much love

I have a feeling this will never happen. :(
That goes for all the recent interviews that keep getting posted. I always thought we had Japanese speakers here, but we rarely, if ever, get translations to any articles, interviews, DVDs, what have you. It's quite depressing to know that there's a wealth of info out there about the band, and it's because the language barrier still eludes us in 2014.

We have very few fluent speakers here, to my knowledge. Everyone has their own things going on. Pair that with a mostly dead community in general, and we are stuck with what we are dealt. No one said it'd be easy liking a band from the other side of the world who doesn't speak English. :'(

As a side note, I've just finished my mastery (haha, not quite yet a 'master') of hiragana and katakana, so I got that going for me which is nice. :shred:

Congrats MyFoot! I have a feeling it won't ever be translated either but a man can dream

Man, I should've finished this a long time ago.

I lost the files with the last two portions: chapter 12 and 13.

If someone still has the transcriptions I will translate & upload.

I'd prefer to get credit on the youtube vid though for my translation...

and can a mod here change my username please this is too old for me lol

I dunno, I guess I'm just spoiled in a sense by the other communities I'm involved in across the web pertaining to other bands. Still, if I had the means to, I'd translate every article and interview they put out. I understand busy schedules and everything, but even just a cursory overview of said interview would be nice from our Japanese speakers/translators every now and then if they happen to be reading them anyways.

But hey, glad you replied back zorahk. I thought those transcriptions were saved somewhere in a thread weren't they? I might try and do some digging and see if they turn up.

Terra should have the transcriptions, PM her and we can get this thing rolling. I'll leave a comment on the youtube video to put your credits in the info box

It's only two chapters. Just post them here and I will spit back the translations.

God damnit, I just spent like an hour translating part 12 and the forum had logged me out and I lost my post.

Okay, I will redo it and post here again later...

Chapter 12

Please Mr. Lostman

Yoshida: In some sense, this was a period when the members had both perfect mental and musical parts.
They had found something new, relating to their making of music. This period is right when they got to that point, and I think they really saw their stance and the music they should be doing. That one thing that they finally found, that is what is in Please Mr. Lostman

Manabe: Before this when we were recording, I would often be working just the two of us with Jin, and I would hear him saying alone to himself “Please Mr. Lostman is really a great album.” At the time, Jin was also a member of the team, and he knew our determination and resolve…I think that is the something that is in the air surrounding this album.

THE MEMBERS

Yamanaka: The first guitar solo of the first song that Manabe-kun listened to, would be fine as-is.

Satou: It’s because the pillows sell because of Pee-chan’s (Manabe’s) looks. The lyrics Yamanaka writes, the music, and Pee-chan’s looks. This is how we sell.

Yamanaka: Shinichirou-kun really grasps my songs at an amazing speed. So by the first, second, and third go around, the places I want him to hold back or go all-out…it’s like they’re already perfect.

Manabe: You just can’t tie Shin-chan down. He isn’t held back by time or anything. In a certain sense he has this resolve, one which you normally don’t find in an adult, and it’s still left without having changed. I think that’s really appealing.

Yamanaka: That’s because everyone is surprised by that. Also, I think it is really hard for Jun having joined later. Like, just coming in all of a sudden. Because he (Shinichirou) doesn’t say anything, even to Jun. If he starts playing a song which even I don’t know, he’s all like “play it!” (to Jun).

Basist: Suzuki Jun (fragments)

Suzuki: It’s because the explosiveness with which the pillows make sound is amazing. Sawao would bring it (the music), and when we played it as a band, there were times when we would be like “Oh!”…that hasn’t changed even today.
It hasn’t changed even today, and I don’t think it will change in the future either. I think perhaps that is what is amazing about the pillows.

Director: Suzuki Jun (the “other” Jun)

Director Suzuki: Even after I became director, there are places where Sawao-kun has changed significantly as a person. He’s very black and white, but he really resolves himself to what he is doing…he is someone who can do anything and take full responsibility for it, so I think he is a very trustworthy person.

Yamanaka: Anyways, I am always thinking about the pillows. Every action relating to the pillows is fun to me, I guess.

WE ARE THE PILLOWS!

Nakamura: I think the pillows are a very uncommon type of band. I don’t understand how after doing this for 15 years their quality just doesn’t go down.

Kobayashi: It looks like they are doing the same thing, but in reality they are always changing.

Director Suzuki: I think there are very few people who have this much fun with music in a rock band.

Miura: I think each of the members really respect one another.

Sasagawa: Even if they listen to various opinions, in the end they make the decisions themselves.
There have been a lot of trends, but they haven’t follow any of these. They have reached their 15th year by, ever since their formation up until now, persisting in what they want to do, to the point of almost being stubborn.

Kadoike: I think, probably, they will still be doing this even 20 years from now.

Suzuki: In Japan, I don’t think there are that many people who can continue to release quality stuff like this. I think it’s like the word “stale” (lit: “to wither”) doesn’t even exist (for them).

Yoshida: Their attitude of always progressing with relation to music, or their attitude of trying to find a new self…I think those things are very attractive.

Nakamura: They’re my favorite band.

Satou: If you don’t have fun, you’re missing out. It’s really fun. It’s our hobby, after all.

Manabe: I think I am living my life, together with the pillows. Like that.

Yamanaka: During our worst period, I called the other two members, saying that I have something to talk about with them. I said, the truth is, this is how I feel. I want to do what I want to do no matter what…I want to persist on a pretty narrow path. We might get cut off by the labels, and we might even go back to being amateurs, but I want to do this no matter what. When I consulted them, they immediately responded: “Sure.” They said that they hadn’t been just tolerating (me) or anything up until now, and that they thought I should do whatever I wanted. I said: “Is that so?” I thought, what great bandmates. They are older than me, and so it was fitting of their age…but it was an extremely cool moment.

Yamanaka: But, I think during the third movement, after releasing Strange Chameleon and our album Please Mr. Lostman, it was just amazing.
We have just been doing the same thing all along. Writing good songs, doing good concerts, making good CDs. We are just doing the same thing. But it’s not the same. It’s not exactly the same.
We are properly serious. Serious to our own lives. Serious to music. We haven’t held back in relation to anything. I think we raised the bar a little. For a 15 year old band full of old guys, I think everyone is happy.

Hm. Interesting. I hope we get another documentary where the band talks about the 10 years since their 15th anniversary. We've alraedy found that Sawao has been frustrated with the last decade or so of music.

Yamanaka: So, OOPARTS... and Horn Again... Yeah, I don't really... I don't want to talk about those right now. Can we just talk about Trial or something?
Manabe: *Bursts into tears*
