Re: The Predators are BACK
Douche or not, the songs have far more similarities than the prechorus. Similarities can be drawn throughout the entire song. Differences can be drawn throughout the entire song. That doesn't mean it was stolen; it doesn't even mean an influence, conscious or not, has to exist. However, to deny a similarity, one must indubitably be in denial.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I'm aware that there are definitely similarities, but I'm mainly just pulling an asshole move on the opposite spectrum of the OH GOD RIPOFF DESU people. To say that it's OBVIOUSLY A SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT RIP-OFF is just as assholish as saying that there is no similarity at all, and all I'm trying to do is to make people FUCKING LISTEN TO THE SONGS OBJECTIVELY, which apparently isn't working too well. Seriously, EVERY TIME a song has any sort of similar sound to another song, you guys fucking scream and bitch about a "ripoff" without even taking the time to look at vocal melodies or chord progressions objectively. If you're going to take a stand, back it up. I've backed up my points with a chord progression comparison and such, but all I see from people claiming it to be a ripoff is "BUT IT REMINDS ME OF SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT, SO THE WHOLE SONG IS A RIPOFF DESU!111"
Seriously? I would think you guys can do better than that. Asshole move or not, I stand by what I said. From an analytical, objective standpoint, the only part of the song that you can directly link to SMTS is the prechorus, and part of the chord progression for the chorus has a very obvious general Nirvana influence. But to call the song a ripoff or to say that the intro, which has an entirely different chord progression and a VERY COMMON MUSICAL STRATEGY to it, a ripoff is just pure idiocy/ignorance/laziness. Get your shit together and back up your claims, kids.
you guys fucking scream and bitch about a "ripoff"
from what I'm seeing there's only one person here screaming and bitching.
dont lump all of us together. There are those that think "SMTS!" in the intro because yea It reminds us of it alot. And there are those that would say it is a complete ripoff, I cant speak for them and I dont care to.
arguing over the internet never changed anyone's opinion.
that being said, I'd encourage all participating in this stupid argument to drop it, lest you make further douchebags of yourself by trying to argue opinions of a song over the internet.
or you can continue for all I care if you're really so set to it. You cant say nobody said anything though.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I remember when I wrote this song and I was heavily influenced by ROBOTMAN. I mean, the base was the same for a good chunk of the song, except for some of the bridge/pre-chorus. When I performed it for a friend he told me that I sounded exactly like "x" musician and took me to youtube.
LOWANDBEHOLD, he was right! There were definately similarities in there! The song even sounded somewhat like ROBOTMAN (though it came out afterwards).
Anyways, yeah. So I made song "x" up, and my friend simply said that my song was "teh awesomez" but still, my point still stands. Even though Sawao is familiar with Nirvana, a good chunk of his past songs have been heavily influenced by bands like this... I'm sure his compositional style will always carry some of the ebbs and streaks of Nirvana-like constructs. It's nothing to argue about, really.

Re: The Predators are BACK
No need to be so anal about it, so we all agree on the most part that it's very similar, right? No need to call anyone an idiot. By your logic, half of IM are idiots. I'm getting tired of this, let's just agree to disagree.

Re: The Predators are BACK
The two songs are similar.
Sawao is not ripping off Nirvana.
One group is arguing the first point, the other group (Mare) is arguing the second point. What neither of you realize is that the two ideas are not mutually exclusive.

........................I've stated where it's similar enough to warrant it being cited as a direct Nirvana influence and where I believe it's simply normal musical practice.

Re: The Predators are BACK
The song is original enough. I mean... a copyright violation lawsuit would not go through.
But... compare the drum line, bass line, general rhythm of the song. It's like Sawao said "Lets take SLTS and replace the four chords with these ones. Then I'll write my own lyrics/melody."
Even the rhythm of what Sawao sings in the verse sounds like part of SLTS. There's no doubt in my mind that The Predators were directly inspired by SLTS.
