Looks like they're only reissuing the first three albums (スリーアウトチェンジ, JUMP UP, and Futurama), but you can actually still get vinyl copies of OOKeah!! and OOYeah!! from the 1999 press (there's some on Amazon.co.jp that are in "brand new, unopened" condition, and they're not even expensive!).

If this trend continues with the pillows, I'll be super pumped to get Runners High and Happy Bivouac next. Hopefully they'll do this with all the King Record releases.

Maybe they can rope Avex into some reissues, like how Meldac's Blue Hearts reissues prompted Warner to do the same. Trial on vinyl would be beyond sweet.

I personally would prefer their old albums on vinyl. I'm more of a collector than a huge vinyl-head, but I do love throwing a record on for albums that have a certain feel that grooves with the pops and crackles of vinyl. Namely jazz, classical, big band stuff. Also stuff you can dance to.

I can totally picture throwing on a vinyl to listen to Girlfriend and Swinger's Nightclub.

IMO there's nothing really interesting going on post-TYMT anyway from a production/mastering standpoint. It's all very in-offensive, musically. The punk-inspired dynamics of their sound have long since been "smoothed out" and gradually eliminated alltogether. LB/RH/HB have a lot of nuance and strong changes in volume and dynamics that should really "pop" on a new analog transfer from the original master.

All that is certainly true of the CD masters but it is possible that a "remaster" for vinyl could give the Avex recordings quite a different sound (i.e. full dynamic range, not brickwalled). That said, I doubt that either Avex or The Pillows would go thru the trouble of getting a new master done for the vinyl, especially since Sawao actually seems to like the brickwalling? (I mean, the band mastered [i]Nook[/i] themselves and it pretty much just looks the same as the last few records; maybe even worse considering the seriously audible clipping on "Where do I go?")

Seriously, though, The Pillows and brickwalling. It was great in their mid-to-late King years to get that bold, driving, "punk-inspired dynamic" as Spike put it, but they haven't really needed brickwalling in over a decade. I will say that I actually kinda dig whatever was done on [i]Horn Again[/i] and [i]Trial[/i], but even there, they could have achieved a better sound with compression that doesn't off the upper dynamic range so aggressively.

So, is there still any chance of ordering these? I wasn't able to find them on "From Japan" or "Shopping mall Japan".

You might not be aware, those are both third party services. You have to work with them/through them to order it from the site in the original post. That's the only place that is actually selling these.

Yes, you can still order the vinyl. However, the seller will not ship the vinyl outside of Japan.

Therefore, if you don't have a friend in Japan, you will need to make an account with a proxy buying service such as From Japan or Zenmarket and get them to buy it for you. Alternatively, you can make an account with Tenso: then, you can order the vinyl yourself and get it sent to them.

I was checking the site a bit ago and saw the "this item will be delivered after the 12th" message. That definitely wasn't there before, and I was even able to schedule delivery for the morning on the 8th. Maybe they're already having stock issues. Anyway, hopefully my records will ship today.
