Not sure really. But I do remember that I thought FLCL was stupid from the adds off adult swim. But when I saw this random anime, and it turned out to be FLCL, I was like, "I'm a dumbass." The first song that I think I remembered, was Little Busters, so I'm just gonna go with that.

The first time I heard The Pillows was on FLCL as well, so the first song I must have heard was "One Life". "Ride on Shooting Star" and the rest of the music were interesting enough for me to download their stuff. By the way, I had trouble downloading "One Life" at first because it was floating around as a mis-labeled U2 song.
It was when I first heard the full actual version of "Last Dinosaur" that I became really hooked (obsessed) with The Pillows. A lot of their songs I first listened to became played out for me, but "Last Dinosaur" is still rocking. Not to say the other songs off FLCL aren't.
