I don't know which radio exact as it was my dad who told me this, one of our local stations was giving out tickets and stuff for the SXSW and they were playing music from all bands and groups that were performing, he said the announcer said the song was Calvero so it may be so. The strangest thing was that he liked it alot, which is a rarity as he doesn't really like my taste in music much except in Classic Rock.

I don't think they will get big enough that they'll be on MTV.
Thank god.
If anything like that were ever to happen, it would be our duty to immediately get in contact with the Pillows and urge them to give MTV the bird.
At least we can say MTV played at least one good band in the past 8 years. Think about it; voting a Pillows video against a AKG video on TRL, Orange Range hosting Countdown, Noodles on Cribs, Bump of Chicken on the Real World, etc.
I'm starting to think this is not such a bad idea after all.

If ANY band that sings mostly in Japanese EVER reaches mainstream popularity in America, I owe someone a Coke.

By "mainstream popularity" I meant more like MTV appearences and respectable album sales. But if L'Arc were to make all-English songs for US releases, they might actually have a chance.

Oh, and if you watch the baltimore live l'arc dvd, you can see me and my friends standing in line outside

Would Hikaru Utada count? Just at the end of last year; Hikki had a video on MTV, ranked 5th on the new artist specific chart, ranked 160 in the Billboard chart, and Devil Inside came in at #1 on the billboard's "Hot Dance Club Play" chart.
However, there were some key factors as to where she could've done better:
1. Her U.S. debut album, EXODUS, was released in Eglish. She might have gained some exposure to make new fans, but left her already devoted fans a bit disappointed. I've seen this happen on several other boards.
2. In a geographically large country like the U.S., the best way for a new artist is to visit various cities, doing a series of live performances. Yet, Utada did not do so.
3. Although she reached $1 on the club music chart, no one really knows who she is or what she looks like.
4. The U.S. media audience tends to be more intrigued by flamboyant pop stars such as Britney Spears(boo). Utada, on the other hand, looks rather subdued.
5. It did seem hopeful at first when she debuted as #5 on the new artist chart, but it was bad timing. Timing is everything. Nirvana, for example.
I'm not saying the Pillows will reach this far, but just to put into consideration.
The last time an Asian reached #1 in the US on the Billboard music charts was back in 1963 which was Kyu Sakamoto with his song "Ue o Muite Arukoi(Sukiyak)" which was sung in Japanese and stayed #1 for almost a month.

there is no way in hell that the pillows will get any attention here unless they release an english album. I stated that in my email to sawao's rep.

I would be very very surprised if the mainstream US audiance would ever accept music that's not in their native language. Which leaves me wondering how this happened:
The last time an Asian reached #1 in the US on the Billboard music charts was back in 1963 which was Kyu Sakamoto with his song "Ue o Muite Arukoi(Sukiyak)" which was sung in Japanese and stayed #1 for almost a month.
Do you know if it was a theme to a movie or something?
